After a long day at work.. and not holding down her lunch, - for about a week actually - which she didn't tell Sam because she knew he'd demand that she stay home and get sleep and try to feel better. A friend at work though convinced her she was pregnant and really, that had Quinn's mind tumbling with ideas. She worked in a lawyer's office, was ( Read more... )

That picture is adorable. Sorry for the tl;dr. dontcrysammy May 19 2011, 13:51:17 UTC
Sam was in love with his job. He could go as far as saying he was in love with life lately. Everything was more or less perfect. He owned his own comic book store, which he considered the best job ever. It kept him feeling young, but that wasn't to say he hadn't grown up. Maybe he was a big kid in a grown man's abulous body sometimes (Quinn's weight was the same and so were Sam's abs), but he could be a mature, responsible adult when he wanted to be. He had his own place with Quinn and he was happily married to the most beautiful woman of all time and space who he loved dearly. There was, perhaps, one thing missing. A baby. Babies, actually, because Sam wanted more than one. But they'd never sat down and had a serious conversation about it, maybe because the B word was a sensitive subject. She had a baby once, then she'd given it away. He knew even after all these years it was still painful for her to talk about. A discussion about having a baby without Beth coming up was out of the question, and he didn't want to upset her by bringing it up. He was like that about confrontation sometimes. So he kept his thoughts to himself, even though his desire to have a baby was strong. He put her first before his needs, as he often did. Coming home from work, he saw her car was parked outside the house so he knew she had to be inside.

"Quinn?" he called out as soon as he walked through the front door, rifling through letters collected from the mailbox. There was nothing exciting, just bills, and he went over to the phone and checked their messages. There was a voicemail from Quinn's mom, inviting them over for dinner. "Quinn?" he called out louder, thinking she hadn't heard him the first time from wherever she was in the house. "Your mom left a message!" There was no response, which caused him to frown, and he looked down as something rubbed up against his leg, their pet cat, Neytiri (named after Neytiri from Avatar since they had the same eyes).

"Hey Ney," he knelt down to stroke her. "Where's your mommy?" He liked to joke that the cat was like their baby and they were her parents. The cat had been like a test for whether they could take good care of something, practice before having a baby, and the cat seemed pretty content which was a good sign. Quinn didn't seem to be downstairs, and Neytiri had wandered upstairs, so Sam followed her to the bedroom where she was curled up on the bed. Sam noticed the bathroom door was shut and pressed his ear to it, listening for sounds that his wife was inside. His fingers knocked lightly against the door. "Baby? You in there?"

Quinn had heard Sam calling out her name and chose not to answer, just in the off chance he'd ignore looking for her for.. five more minutes. But she knew better and was proven wrong when she heard him gently knock on their bathroom door. She actually glanced at herself in the mirror as if asking herself if she should answer, but she didn't want him like.. busting down the door.

"I'm in here." she finally piped up. "I'll be out in.. four minutes, okay?" and she also knew Sam would wonder why four minutes, so she thought of something right off the top of her head. "I'm uh.. dyeing my hair and I have four minutes left." Okay, that'll work and was pretty good for having to think that quickly for a reason.

He did indeed wonder why four minutes. Why the precision? And then she mentioned she was dyeing her hair and his face sort of fell.

"You're what?" He knew she could pull off any hair color, but he loved her blonde hair. It was so... golden. "Why? It's not permanent, is it? Let me in." So that plan had backfired on her. He hadn't wanted to come in before, but now he definitely did.

Crap. She should've known he wouldn't have liked that idea. "No. No, just give me four minutes. Well, almost three now. You'll like it, I swear." Seriously? She was still rolling with this lie. It was worth it, honestly. Especially if her test came out positive.

She really wanted to get him away from the door for three minutes though. So.. "Hey, want to go order something for dinner? Doesn't matter what."

"But..." He wanted to argue but he ended up pouting at the door instead. She was right; he'd probably end up liking how her hair would turn out. Now he was imagining her as a brunette, a redhead, and so forth... Now he was excited to see her new look.

"Ok, I'll be back in three." He left the room and went back downstairs, looked through the take-out menus and ordered some Chinese food, choosing for Quinn what she usually had. Then he went back upstairs and flopped onto the bed, listening to Neytiri purr from his petting while he waited for Quinn to come out of the bathroom.

Hearing him go downstairs, she took a breath and waited those three extremely long minutes. She actually paced in the bathroom and at times would drum her fingers on the bathroom counter. How could three minutes go by so fast any other time, but right now so slow?

Finally, those three minutes up and she heard Sam walking back into the bedroom.. another deep breath and she took a look at the first test. Then the second. Then the third.

Positive. Positive. Positive.

She covered her mouth to muffle her gasp, the other hand instantly going to her stomach. She was pregnant. She was ecstatic. Opening the bathroom door, she looked to Sam on the bed, beaming a smile. Hair totally still blonde. "Hey."

Sam looked up from the cat to the bathroom door. There she was... and still blonde. Huh. That was quite the anticlimax.

"Hey. Uh... I like your hair?" He looked at her confusedly. It still looked the same as this morning when he ran fingers through it whilst in bed. "I ordered Chinese..." He studied her face. She hadn't looked this happy since... well, since they had sex last night. He beamed back at her, because her smile was infectious. "What're you so happy about it?"

She chuckled at the mention of her hair and moved over to him, laying down on the bed on her back. "I have a secret I want to tell you." She could feel tears in her eyes, but they were definitely happy. And overwhelming. This baby she wouldn't have to give up and this baby she was having with the love of her life.

Lifting her shirt to expose her stomach, she bit her bottom lip briefly, motioning to her tummy before meeting his eyes. "You're going to be a daddy."

Since he was always gazing into her eyes, he noticed them water almost immediately. It worried him and made him think she was about to tell him something bad. He honestly had no idea what was going on. She'd made him wait a certain number of minutes for her to dye her hair in the bathroom, only to come out of it with the same hair and then lift up her shirt which confused him even more...

Then she dropped a bomb. An incredible, amazing bomb. His felt like his heart had stopped and he'd probably need to Quinn to breathe some life into him soon. "Can you repeat that?" he asked wide-eyed, in case he'd misheard.

His wide eyes had her a little confused. She couldn't exactly tell if he was excited, disappointed or upset. She prayed for excited. "You're going to be a daddy. I'm pregnant." she said softly, planting both hands on the bed to push herself up into a slightly seated position, not yet pulling her shirt down.

"Oh my god." He could feel his eyes misting with tears, but they were just as happy as the ones in Quinn's eyes. "We're gonna have a baby?" He eyed her stomach and slid the palm of his hand over it, then looked up at her with the biggest smile on her face. "You've no idea how much I've wanted this." And then he practically jumped her in a hug, making the cat leap off the bed in surprise.

She had come to know when Sam's tears were happy or sad and she knew the ones in his eyes were happy, which washed relief over her. "We are." Her smile was back when he slid his palm over her stomach. "We should've talked about it, but I've wanted this with you since we said 'I do'." Which their marriage was still pretty new, only three years, being together seven. And that was completely on her and she knew that, she knew Sam wanted to marry her as soon as possible, but she wanted them to be stable in every way.

The hug had her squealing and then laughing, arms wrapping around him. "I love you." she said between laughs. "And I think you scared Ney."

"I think I did," he laughed as he watched the cat stalk out of the room. He'd make it up to her later with cat nip or something. For now, he concentrated on his beautiful pregnant wife. He loved that he could call her that now.

"I love you so much." His lips met hers, kissing her tenderly. Then he pressed a kiss to her stomach. "And I love you too, baby girl or boy." He looked at Quinn curiously. "What do you hope it'll be?"

She giggled when she felt the kiss on her stomach, her fingers lazily running through his hair. "Honestly? A boy. I want a momma's boy. But I'd be just as happy with a girl. As long as the baby is healthy. Plus, if we had a girl, you could have a daddy's girl." She smiled lovingly down at him.

"I'll need to call tomorrow and make an appointment with the gyno, see how far along I am and things like that. Plus, I'll need to run out tonight and buy some prenatal pills." She still remembered everything she had to do while pregnant, even if the last pregnancy she had was eight years ago, but she was trying to not think of that. To think of an eight year old Beth running around.

"This explains not holding down my lunch lately. Sandy, the woman I work with, she suggested to me today that I might be pregnant. Just to be sure I bought three tests and took them all. Which.. is why I locked myself in the bathroom. If it was negative, I didn't want you disappointed." Not like trying again wouldn't be fun.

He rested his head on her tummy, pressing his ear against it like he was listening out for the baby's movements. Though she was hardly showing so it was doubtful that the baby had formed enough to make dorky dance moves inside her like his or her father yet. He didn't mind what the sex was, but if it got her looks it would turn out gorgeous.

"I'll get someone to look after the store tomorrow and come with you. And I'll get those pills for you tonight," he insisted. He stroked her hair back when she mentioned being sick. "Maybe I should cancel that Chinese... How are you feeling now?"

She smiled seeing his ear pressed against her stomach. The baby intend hadn't grown enough to hear or feel anything. Quinn couldn't even feel anything and usually the mother was the first to feel any movement. She remembered that too. It almost felt like popcorn popping inside your stomach.

"You don't have to come tomorrow, Sam. It'll just be minor things. Taking measurements, asking questions and things like that. They won't do an ultrasound for about another month or so. I don't want you to have to leave the store for that. You know I could always call you afterward." she leaned into his hand that stroked her hair, her eyelids flickering. "No, don't cancel it. I'm starving. And I feel fine right now, it's just lunch time nothing agrees with me."
