(Augh! Had a lot of set up for these two to get them to Miami, so I'll post a link for my Mulder response, which is quite long, and will respond with Scully here in comments. Sorry, it took lots of writing for Mulder.)

I glanced at Mulder's new badge, marking him as a consultant. "I liked our old ones better ( ... )

It was at that moment that Myka and Claudia practically ran into the room. Myka recognized the two agents and took a second to compose herself. Instead of addressing them, she turned to the M.E., who was nearby, going over some things with her clipboard.

"Excuse me," Myka flashed her badge again while Claudia (as instructed) stayed a few feet behind her. "Myka Bering, U.S. Secret Service. We had an appointment."

The M.E., a middle-aged woman with steel gray hair named Ramona Walls, looked up. "Agent Bering...it seems that you're not the only one with an interest in this case."

The corners of Myka's mouth drew up in a forced smile. "But I am the one who has jurisdiction."

Claudia paged through the reports she'd printed. They hadn't been released to the public, but that had never stopped her before. She circled a few passages and wrote one word in the margin.

Blood.

Blood was the key in this. The first two victims had just been stabbed and left alone to bleed out. The second two, though, had been drained of blood... but there was none where the bodies were found. It had either been carried away or they'd been killed elsewhere. Figure out where the blood went, Claudia thought, and more would become clear. Artie's idea of sacrifice was still the best she'd thought of. Blood was a symbol of power and life.

Of course, Miami had its share of big libraries. Between internet research and good old hitting the books, she and Myka could figure out what they were seeking.

She watched Myka, the M.E., and the two FBI agents. She could learn a lot about how to deal with jurisdiction issues from observing Myka.

The ME and Scully had just started their pow wow when the two newcomers entered, whipping out badges and smirking about jurisdiction. I glanced at Scully. Not the first time we'd heard this line before ( ... )

This wasn't going to end well. Already Agent Bering is glancing sourly at Mulder, as the girl in the back looks on. She's not an agent, I'd be surprised if she even knew what the Secret Service did. "Agent Bering," I interjected, reaching for Mulder's arm before he said anything else to cause and argument. "I'm afraid that you've come here at a bit of a loss. I'm Dr. Dana Scully, this is Fox Mulder, we've been asked by the FBI to look into these cases because of their serial nature and the unusual aspect of the murders." I glace at the ME, unusual would be right. "No one at the Bureau informed us that there was any reason for the Secret Service to be involved, and I'm sure if we place a phone call to the Assistant Director in charge, we can clear this up and perhaps work together to find out what is going on ( ... )

Myka gave a tight smile to both agents. "You weren't informed, because the Secret Service's involvement is highly classified. The unit I work with handles very sensitive cases that pose a risk to national security." She looked pointedly at Mulder. "If you'll remember, the Secret Service is now a part of Homeland Security." She hated pulling that card, but it was true. "I could try to explain it to you, but really, it'll be easier if you let us handle this."

If she sounded arrogant, Myka certainly wasn't trying to be. Things got sticky when other law enforcement agencies were involved with Warehouse-related cases. In addition, more people tended to get hurt than was necessary.

"We're-- She's a different branch of the Secret Service than the protection unit," Claudia chimed in. 'We' was more appropriate, but she wouldn't cause too much of a stir over that. Technically, she wasn't an agent yet. Much to her annoyance. Still, she worked with Myka, and she was part of the team. There was also the part where she wasn't supposed to say anything, but she couldn't just stand there.

If it came to it? She'd call Artie. He'd fix this. Shoo the FBI out. ...He could that, right? He could get Mrs. Frederic to go all creepy and get them sole jurisdiction of the case. Of course. Even as she told herself that, Claudia wasn't sure.
