Hey, yesterday was my one year "anniversary" with Zachary and Amanda! I remember the day I met them because it was the first day of Japanese class after I got back from China/Japan: January 3, 2007. To celebrate, we went out to Mongolian Barbecue for dinner, then had Starbucks, and ended the night playing Risk (with Sal in tow). Now our friendship has finally been legitimized, since when you know someone really well but you've only known them for less than a year, something's just not right.
Let's see here:
> I'm back from China, of course
> My plane was late to San Francisco and I missed my transfer to Chicago, so I had to spend the night there. I ended up walking around the city and seeing Market St., Chinatown, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Golden Gate Bridge - all at night.
> I spent a great Christmas with my family and a fun New Years at S!J's house with some good friends.
> Now I'm back at NCC, living in Naper Place, and trying not to seem ignorant in Japanese - since I haven't studied it for the past 6 months while other people have, I find myself constantly lost, my vocab lacking, my understanding of grammar limited, and my ability to make sentences relegated to the most elementary of phrases. But I had a good day today, and I think after a term I can pull myself through and be kind of caught up.
In regards to 2007, I just thought it was interesting that it was the most Korean year of my life. I started out with a crush on a Korean girl (Meehyun), then started to learn Korean from Meehyun and Hyuein, then actually went to South Korea for a week and saw all 4 of the NCC Korean girls from the past 2 years there (plus Sal!), in China my best friends were Koreans, and I fell in love with Korean food, culture, and language (especially Hangul!). Go Korea.
Other friends I'd like to mention:
Valeria - I miss Val! She made me an incredible cupcake today, with my social security number on it in frosting and a heart inside.
Parker - I gave him a hat that says "Parker" on it. He now walks around with it on.
Austin & Corinne - The promised me that we'll see more of each other once winter term starts, and so far they have lived up to it.
Pixie - More American than ever.
P.S. I wish I had pictures of San Francisco and stuff to put up, but I'm typing this on my NEW COMPUTER and have yet to get everything set up.
