For those of you who can't remember/don't know, I'm studying Scriptwriting. I don't really like acting, I'm not very good at it and I don't tend to enjoy spending long periods of time with large amounts of drama students. It also takes me a long time to read anything and even longer to understand it, making studying novels frustrating, though not impossible. Having to pick my modules from Lit and Drama, looking for modules that study plays but don't insist on you acting, is tricky. There are 4 modules like this in the whole of the third year that aren't Shakespeare, and I have to pick 5 modules with 10 back up modules. They've also just announced that several modules have been canceled.
Also, I've studied enough Shakespeare for one human being. Enough.
Semester 1
LI TD 3X 35, Drama Dissertation
Writing a whole play and an essay on the play I just wrote. Mandatory, obviously.
LI TE 3Y 45, Revenge Tragedy: Ancient And Modern
This one'll do. It ranges from The Oresteia to Kill Bill.
Needs backups.
Semester 2
LI TE 3X 06, Drama And Literature: The Question Of Genre
Coursework and Project
I actually want to do this one.
LI TD 3X 34 Contemporary Drama and Film
Exam with coursework or project
I actually want to do this one, too.
I need one more choice, and several back ups.
Maybes:
These are all Semester 2
LI TD 3X 38, Drama project
Terrified of this one, you have to write or adapt a play, cast the play, direct the play, then put on the play, while writing about what you're doing the whole time. The scramble for actors is going to be awful, as there will at least 21 people in this module all trying to direct their own play. You can have two or three people directing one play, though. It'll be fun, but difficult and time consuming and the finished product may end up being rubbish, as I've never directed a whole play by myself before. I assume there's some small directive input from tutors who probably come and watch a rehearsal at some point and give vague advice. And the unwritten rule is that you have to do pretty much everything they say, as they'll be partly marking you on how well you responded to their advice.
LI TE 3Y 32 VIRGIL'S CLASSIC EPIC
Tom Rutledge is fascinating and I enjoyed The Aeneid and love learning about ancient Rome, but this module is focusing on Medieval and Renaissance history and reinterpretations of Virgil's work, rather than in the original Roman context.
LI TE 3X 40, POETRY IN DARK TIMES: HOLDERLIN, RILKE, CELAN
Coursework and Project
This is the only other one I wouldn't mind doing. There doesn't seem to be another poetry module anywhere.
Also, what the poo is UCU?
