Dear Internet,
I like this song, partly for its simplicity. Also because it is a song by the band Cake that I have not yet listened to a million times already.

I am looking for cheap as chips housing. Cheaper than chips. I mean, how expensive can it be to make chips? They're just potato lumps in oil. Should I start making my own chips? Y/N.

-Storage Heaters bad, Gas Central Heating good.
-Double glazing is totally worth it for the noise reduction and not being drafty (along with security reasons)
-If you have housemates, it's really good to also have a combi boiler (hot water on demand) or SOMEONE will steal the last of the hot water every time.
-A decent power shower is a life saver in the mornings, it's cool to test the shower when looking at houses to see if it's a dribble or decent.
-It's a lot harder to lock yourself out of a house that has mortice locks than it is one with yale locks.
-Check for signs of damp - usually black mould-like patches in the corners of the ceiling.
-Check out where the power points are - it is possible to do clever things with lots of extension leads but much easier (and safer) if you don't have to.
I always found sharing with men a lot easier (just a personal thing with me I guess). It is a lot cheaper to share a place, bills, council tax etc but doable to live on your own.
The Thursday evening news and Friday EDP are the house papers every week (at least they used to be). Call them up, book an appointment to go take a look, I always took a friend with me just in case. We're with JSM at the moment and they fail at getting maintenance done on time but they're good in an emergency and give plenty of notice for inspections.
