Johnny's Popularity Poll?!
So for the past month CD Japan held a poll for the most popular Johnny's group, with the winner's goods getting a bonus 15% extra points added. It's been a pretty dramatic poll to follow. But the winners have been announced! The winner is... NEWS!!
They've gotten so popular lately it's not so surprising but I feel really proud about how hard they've been working ever since they became a 4 member group, although I only became a fan recently. I honestly hoped Kanjani8 would win since I'm more willing to buy their goods (and hoped it would apply to their new album)

So NEWS won which is not surprising since they were at the top from the start. What was surprising was Arashi's result as they had double the amount of NEWS' votes at the beginning but were eventually pushed to second to fourth (!!) to end in third place! I've always had the image in my head that Arashi was undefeatable as the emperors of Johnny's, but it seems overseas that's not the case. If I remember they didn't win last year either (I think that was KAT-TUN.)
Speaking of which, KAT-TUN has also had quite a popularity drop (finishing in sixth), most likely due to Taguchi leaving and the drama that followed. They are still "recharging" as of now, focusing on individual activities (Kame to YamaP has been SUPER promoted but I want to see more Ueda-kun...) As much as I'm not as interested in them as other groups, I hope to see them up and running ASAP.
Hey!Say!JUMP are more popular than I thought as well, finishing in fifth place. I've recently begun to binge-watch Itadaki High-Jump and I'm wavering between Inoo, Hikaru and Arioka for a place as favourite (though I think Yamada will always be the hottest.) Oh! It's also their 10 year anniversary so I wonder if that may be part of it... Kinki Kids were also pretty high up and I think this year is their 20th anniversary??
Johnny's WEST was also pretty high up, finishing seventh. I was surprised they surpassed their senpai such as Kis-My and Sexy Zone as they are the most recently debuted group but I certainly like them better (which shouldn't be surprising since I'm an Eighter and completely in love with Kansai-ben.) They're hilarious and they are getting more regular shows and a Netflix drama!! I can't wait for the world to be bombarded by these guys.
I'm actually super surprised at the Junior groups' rankings (SixTONES and Mr.King defeated Sexy Zone and Kis-My as well.) I don't follow the Juniors very well but they do have potential. I can see SixTONES becoming the next group to debut. Or maybe they'll mix people from different groups like NEWS?? It's about time for a group to debut or maybe we'll see one in a couple years? 2020 Olympics maybe?? I don't know.... we'll see I guess.
Anyway, last but definitely not least, KANJANI8!!!!! I can't believe they finished second!! At one point they were even behind WEST! I guess it may have been thanks to the various journals who promoted it... but still! Such a huge comeback is amazing. If they had won I'd have bought everything! Or at least their DVDs. But a 130 difference! SO closeeeeeeee. I'm just happy they got higher than Arashi... I love them too but I have this weird rivalry between them in my head. But NEWS winning is good, I like NEWS. I might buy one of their DVDs (probably one with Ryo-chan in it :P)
