LOCAL FOLKS: want to take a great writing class? Thursdays at the Loft Thursdays from January 26th to March 1st, taught by my Other Main Man, snurri, a.k.a. David J. Schwartz.
Description: Introduction to Contemporary Fantasy
Writers like Michael Chabon, Kelly Link, Jonathan Lethem and Lev Grossman are blurring the lines between mainstream literary fiction and the literature of the fantastic. At the same time, the Harry Potter series and George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series are demonstrating that there is still a healthy audience for traditional fantasy. We'll look at what fantasy means to us now, and explore how it can reflect our world and even our everyday reality in ways that so-called realistic fiction sometimes can't. You'll learn how to workshop stories and get personal feedback from a Nebula award-nominated novelist and short story writer.
