♕ |[65]| Some are plain lucky-- we ourselves among them

I'm always glad to see this, but it's a doubly welcome change from the past week. I didn't really try to leave the City while it was... moving, I suppose you could say, but from everything I read and saw on the Network it didn't seem like the other worlds were any safer than the City ( Read more... )

all's well that ends well, curse [affected], stories of the city, fourth wall destruction, in love with life

What's a Pop-Tart?

You've never had one? Oh, man, you're missing out. They're like...kind of like two pieces of cardboard with fake jelly sandwiched between them and hard neon pink icing and sprinkles on top.

You're... supposed to eat this?

Yeah! Unless it's a cat, then you probably shouldn't.

Oh, well, I have a flying singing Pop-Tart cat now. It's pretty neat!

What're you writing?

As a pet?

Rosella had an idea-- we've been talking about it a little while now-- that everyone in the City should write down stories about our lives, here and at home, and collect them all into a big book. I was going to start by writing about Midsummer.

No, just babysitting. Elle's lab said something about it being an abomination against nature or whatever so they have to check it out. But I totally get to play with it in the meantime!

Oh, right, her. ...That's a pretty neat idea, though!

Well, how can a cat with two pieces of cardboard and fake jelly and icing and sprinkles for a body be able to eat, or move, or... you know, just generally be alive?

Do you know Rosella?

Because of rainbows! It's really neat.

Well, yeah, she's the one who doesn't like me. So I never go see her 'cause I think it's pretty rude to keep making dates and then ditching me all the time.

Ditching you? Do you mean--

Well, I'm sure she'd like you if she got to know you-- I mean, at first I'm sure a lot of people are too nervous because of, you know. What you do.

I dunno, I guess there are always going to be people who don't like me, you know? And I don't mind it if people don't like me 'cause that's kind of the point of my PR department, to make me seem all scary and whatever, but you could at least try not to be totally rude about it. I mean, I have a mountain of paperwork as it is, and I have to do about five times more for every time somebody stands me up. And she stood me up a lot.

So I figured she'd just be happier if I left her alone and now that's what I do.

Well, I'm not sure I can entirely blame her for trying to avoid you. [It's kind of a weak joke, given who it's coming from.] But it's too bad, I think you'd get along.

In any case I'm glad I've had the chance to get to know you here.

It's not even the avoiding! I don't mind the avoiding. I mean, so long as it's normal avoiding, whatever. But this is like meet-for-a-date-and-then-climb-out-the-bathroom-window-between-dessert-and-the-check avoiding, and it's really frustrating.

I guess maybe I could go try to say hi, though. If you think it's a good idea?

Well, you might make her nervous... And I'm sure she doesn't know what a pop-tart is either.
