I don't have much time, so the brief story is this - I had contractions starting on Thursday. I went to my dr's appointment Friday and was 3cm, 90% effaced. I was losing my mucus plug. I ended up having regular contractions (between 3-5 min) Sunday morning around 2am. I went to the hospital like they told me to when that happened. No progress. I got home around 4am and tried to sleep. I ended up back there around 8am. My water had broke. My contractions were strong and fast. I was in labor all day and stalled at 8cm. It had been around 12 hours. I hadn't slept much all weekend because of the contractions. I was getting tired. I had a couple doses of Stadol in my IV through the day, but it just helped me sleep for about an hour or so each time...didn't take away the pain really. My cervix was swollen so it wouldn't dilate for a long while. They wanted to start Pitocin. I knew the contractions were going to get even worse and I was tired. They started it and then offered my last chance at an epidural and I took it. By the time they gave me the epi and then checked my cervix again, it was time to push. So I got a little relaxation from the epi for a bit and then they ended up turning it off for me to push because I couldn't feel the muscles there enough to push effectively. It wore off and I pushed like crazy, lol. He was born after about an hour and a half or so of pushing...time went by fast for me so I don't know exactly. He started breastfeeding as soon as he was latched on (after all the cleaning up and such). Billy, my fiance, was by my side counting to ten with every contraction and that was awesome. I let my dad stay in the room too. And I got to watch the whole thing in the mirror. It was really great and I don't regret the epi or anything...it let me rest briefly which I really needed. Everything is well. He ended up back in the hospital for light treatments for jaundice and we were there overnight. But everything is well now. Only problem is a CONSTANT sciatic nerve problem I have had since I came home. Anyways, he was 10lb, 9 oz at his 2 wk appointment today...he's so big! :) I love him so much!
