The New Year

I told you it would be infrequent . . .

We had a good Christmas - the kids all home, lots of family both here and on the island. It was wonderful and we are very lucky to get to enjoy our families so much.

The tree came down yesterday (I was surprised when Doug suggested it, he is normally the great supporter of keeping it lit through Twelfth Night, but I guess with just the two of us home and the tree chipping day on Saturday it made sense.) The living room looks a little bare, as it always does when the tree comes down. We have to get the 'art thing' sorted out soon so that it doesn't look like we're just renting the place.

I've been spending some time trying to determine what competitive sport I'm going to excell at this year (a fortune cookie and my 2007 horoscope both indicated this would happen - go figure.) I think that under the circumstances about the only option would be rally driving. Could be a challenge for my directionally handicapped self, but perhaps they have the equivalent of the paralympics for those who can't tell north from south and who have attempted to follow the river course on a road map. I certainly got some good poor-weather practice in on Tuesday driving down-island from Port Alberni!

I'm not actually looking forward to going back to work next Monday. It has been a good fall, but I'm beginning to think that I need to move on - all antsy and itchy. Maybe the freshly painted and re-floored office will inspire me and I'll feel more settled next week. If you hear of any openings for multi-talented, multi-tasking motherly types just pass my name along. (Good with children, minor plumbing and an excellent researcher - doesn't suffer fools particularly gladly.)

I should go and put the fiction section of the family library in some sort of order so I can figure out where it's going to end up being shelved. Having my books back on shelves will help me feel settled again, I'm sure.

Happy New Year all,
Muff
