The blurb on the side of Newman's Own All Natural Lemonade reads like something out of the
J. Peterman catalog, albeit more like the version from Seinfeld than the real life Peterman catalog. When I read this I totally hear it in
John O'Hurley's voice.
LEGEND: The marathon in Africa...I'm halfway out and barely chugging. Mountain coming! Liquid needed! What's around? Water's bitter! Beer's flat! Gator, blah blah!...Fading fast. Then a vision -- sweet Joanna! -- Tempting me with pale gold nectar...Lemon is it! Yes, by golly! Lemonade! No, Lemon aid!...Power added! Asphalt churning!...Cruising home to victory! Hail Joanna! Filched the nectar (shameless hustler) -- in the market -- Newman's Own.
I'm not entirely familiar with this product line. I know it's been around for a long time and that a portion of the proceeds go to charity, but if there are similar blurbs on the other food, then I need to see more. Actually, now that I think of it, Pizza Pie-er used their salad dressing and I recall reading something similar on one of the little packets. I feel like I did the first time I read my very first
Vitamin Water label (sidenote: that website is very cool). I have to read them all now!
The lemonade is pretty tasty too. Low sugar. Naturally sweetened. Not too tart, not too sweet. RIP, Paul Newman. You were a gentleman and, if I may say so, a total fox.
