“Isn’t he just the cutest thing!” Ryeowook squealed, holding her newborn closer to her chest. Yesung just smiled and patted the baby, much like one would a pet cat. Leeteuk sighed contentedly.

“He is a beautiful baby. Henry, was it?”

“Yes… Beautiful Henry…” Yesung continued to stroke his son until Ryeowook slapped his hand away.

“He’s trying to sleep.”

Henry stirred in his tiny mother’s arms, restless and Yesung took this as an opportunity to begin petting him again. Immediately the baby stopped still.

“Will wonders never cease?” Leeteuk laughed, before sitting up to find her husband outside playing with the older children.

“Sungmin, your little girl is turning into such a beauty!” she remarked.

Sungmin smiled from his seat across from the happy couple.

“Yes… Heechul is getting bigger… also feistier it seems…”

“Just like her daddy then?” Ryeowook smirked and Sungmin sent her a look.

“She reminds me too much of her mother…”

“You seriously need to forget her and find a new lady, man!” Kangin said as he entered from the door leading to the garden. In his arms sat the twins Siwon and Kibum and up high on his shoulders was Heechul, laughing contentedly. Kibum tried to reach up for the three year old girl, but Siwon stopped his brother in time, knowing that Heechul was hurt them had Kibum managed to grab her pink skirt and tug.

“Speak of the devil!” Sungmin laughed, walking up to Kangin slowly and holding his arms out to show Heechul his intention to grab her. She nodded, and allowed her father to take her into his arms.

“You’re getting big now aren’t you Heechul?” Leeteuk observed, watching Kangin tickle their sons from the corner of her eye.

Heechul sent Leeteuk a scandalized look before burying her head in Sungmin’s neck.

“Yah! Appa! Teukie-umma called me fat!” she whined, rubbing her face against the hot skin of Sungmin’s neck.

Rubbing her back with a free hand, Sungmin rolled his eyes at the adults while Siwon and Kibum immediately stopped playing and came to help.

“You two want to make her feel better?” Sungmin asked as the twins tugged as his pant leg. They nodded in unison and Sungmin knelt down to their level.

“Siwonnie and Kibum-ah want to play with you Chullie? Will you play with them?”

Heechul’s face shot straight up and she proceeded to abandon her father and grab a hold of both of the boys hands before racing into another room.

“I’ll make sure they don’t destroy anything…” Leeteuk smiled as she followed the children.

Yesung sighed.

“Can’t wait until Henry is big enough to run around like that…”

“Yes you can.” Replied Ryeowook, Kangin and Sungmin at the same time. They all stared at each other before bursting into laughter.

Henry slept through this, of course.

Sungmin smiled at Ryeowook’s reactions around her husband.

In the car home, Heechul sat next to her father with a pout on her face.

“What’s wrong princess?” Sungmin turned to face her as they were stopped at the lights.

“I’m not a princess.”

“Okay then… how about flower?”

“… Yes.”

“Well then, what’s wrong flower?”

“Siwon and Kibum both have a mummy and a daddy, and Henry baby has aunty Wookie and uncle Sungie… why do I only have you?”

“Oh…”

“It’s not that I don’t like you, but… where’s my mummy?” Heechul started to tear up. Sungmin reached over and stroked her cheek reassuringly.

“Oh honey… it’s okay, everything will be alright…”

“Didn’t she want me or something? Where is she!?” Heechul began full out bawling.

Tell her a lie Sungmin, tell her a lie… he thought. Because in truth, yes, Heechul’s mother hadn’t wanted her. She’d wanted him even less.

Two months after little Heechul was born, Jessica had unearthed her ex-boyfriend and taken off with him, leaving Sungmin watching over an angelic baby girl.

Who turned out to be a devil in disguise.

Not that Sungmin was complaining; he loved that his little baby girl shared his love of the colour pink. But he never wanted Heechul to learn the truth about her mother, ever.

“Heechul sweetie, mummy died…” Sungmin said softly, patting the girls head as they pulled into the driveway. Heechul looked up, her big brown eyed red-rimmed and still full of tears.

“R-r-really?” she sniffed. Sungmin nodded. Heechul accepted the fact quickly before undoing her seatbelt.

“Can we maybe see her sometime?”

Sungmin wasn’t expecting that.

“Yeah, maybe one day when you’re older, honey.” Like after I tell you I lied and you slap me…

Heechul skipped into the house and Sungmin sighed, dragging his feel in after her.

“So where is Heechul going to kindergarten?” Leeteuk questioned casually, holding a squirming Kibum tightly so she could try to get the boy to eat the icecream without painting himself, his mother and his brother with it.

Heechul sat at the table happily sucking on the straw of her strawberry milkshake.

“Heenim will be with us?” Siwon asked, looking up from the cupcake he’d started.

“Don’t talk with your mouth full Wonnie~!” Heechul giggled, before hitting him lightly on the arm. Siwon pulled a face, rubbing at where a red mark was forming.

“Play nice,” Leeteuk scolded, playfully before returning her gaze to Sungmin.

“Bummie and WonWon are going to that new place on the corner.  Maybe you could send Heechul there?”

“Huh?”

“I know you haven’t booked her in yet. I can read you like a book Sungmin. You underestimate my mothering skills and how long have I know you?”

“Touche.”

“I can call up for you if you want, they are still taking bookings…”

“No it’s okay. That place on the corner right? It’s on our way home. I’ll stop by with Heenim when we leave.”

“If you’re sure…”

“I am.”

“Sungmin, I know it’s been hard for you since Jessica left, but I think it was for the best.”

“… What do you mean?”

“You smile a lot more these days.” Leeteuk smiled and sat back in her chair at the café, giving up on trying to keep her sons dirt free.

“Kangin’s going to love showering with them.” She giggled. Sungmin laughed.

Sungmin had been best friends with Yesung and Kangin since college. All of them found their girlfriends at the same time too. It was like fate.

Yesung’s Ryeowook was very small and fragile, she was also younger than them, still being a final year high school student when the two were introduced. They’d been married first, yet Ryeowook was the last to get pregnant. Kangin and Leeteuk met on campus, Leeteuk was their senior, but she was very lovely. Kangin had married her and they’d gotten their two boys very soon afterwards. Sungmin had never been married. He met a girl he liked, she’d seduced him into bed, she’d gotten pregnant, had the baby and left him.

Sungmin got along better with the wives of his friends rather than his friends because every time Heechul was asked on a play date with Siwon and Kibum, Leeteuk would be there and sometimes Ryeowook would waddle along too - except no waddling anymore because that exercise resulted in Henry.

“Chullie, time to go. Say goodbye to Siwon and Kibum.” Sungmin said to his daughter who pouted.

“I don’t wanna go!” she cried, cluthing to both boys and giving puppy dog eyes to her father.

Two can play at that game…

Heechul gasped, as her father used aegyo eyes back on her before she crossed her arms and huffed.

“I guess I’ll be seeing you later then, Min,” Leeteuk smiled. “Come and play soon Heechul, okay?”

“If Daddy stops being a big meanie!” she poked out her tongue, causing Sungmin and Leeteuk to laugh.

“We’ll be off then. By boys; see you Leeteuk. Come on Chullie, let’s go to school!”

“School?” Heechul became interested and hopped up from her seat, following her father out of the door of the café.

“You’ll be starting school soon, with Kibum and Siwon.”

“But I don’t wanna leave daddy!”

“Huh? But don’t you wanna have fun with the twins?”

Heechul shook her head defiantly.

“Why not flower?”

“Because then daddy will be lonely and he will cry.” Heechul said matter-of-factly, looking him in the eyes.

Sungmin gulped.

Damn girl notices too much… how could she have heard me crying? Her room is down the other end of the house!

“Where is this school, appa?”

“Near home, so we can walk there each day!” Sungmin smiled, starting the car.

“But I don’t wanna walk!” whined Heechul.

This is going to be a long five minute drive…

Hangeng looked up at the sound of a car pulling up the gravel driveway. Sticking his head out the window he noticed a silver convertible and cat called before noticing the people getting out of it.

A small girl with long, dark hair, dressed in a pink floral outfit stepped out one door while a man wearing a turtle neck paired with a pair of jeans stepped out the other side.

“We have visitors?” Eunhyuk asked from the drawing table where he was entertaining his little brother, Donghae.

“Yeah, a little girl and… a guy?”

“Why does that sound kinky?” Shindong asked, removing himself from the kitchen.

“Yah! No language in front of Hae please!” Eunhyuk shrieked, though Donghae hadn’t heard a thing, he was busy singing to himself about a little mermaid as he drew a picture of a fish.

The doorbell rang.

“I’ll get it!” Zhoumi chirped,  picking himself up off of the couch and heading to the door.

“Hello~!” he smiled at the people. The little girl looked up at the man and smiled back shyly, before hiding behind Sungmin. Sungmin smiled.

“Hi there. I do believe I’m here to register my daughter?” he chuckled. Zhoumi’s smile brightened.

“Then I guess you two had better come in!”

Sungmin looked around the room.  There was a kitchen, an area for sleeping, an activity table, a reading corner… it seemed to be a child’s wonderland.

He noticed another child at the activity table and Heechul quickly ran over to join him.

“Hi there! I’m Hangeng, coordinator of this place. And you are?”

A tall man, though not as tall as the man who had answered the door, stepped forward, holding out his hand.

“Lee Sungmin. And over there is my daughter, Heechul.”

“She is very cute~”Zhoumi chirped, gripping onto Hangeng’s arm. “I’m Zhoumi. I’m Hangeng’s… what am I?”

“He’s my partner…” Hangeng sighed. Sungmin nodded. He’d met plenty of homosexual people in his time and found nothing wrong with them.

“I’m Eunhyuk!” cried a dorky teenager who stepped forward.

“Aren’t you a little too old to be here Eunhyuk-ah?” Sungmin waggled his eyebrows. The boy laughed.

“I’m here for work experience. That boy over there with your Heechul is my little brother, Donghae.”

“He seems very interested in his drawing.”

“It’s a fish. He likes fish.”

“Oh…”

“And I’m Shindong, the cook!” the largest man waddled towards Sungmin. Although his size was daunting, Sungmin did not feel frightened by the man. Instead, he felt the warmth seeping from every pore in his body.

“It’s nice to meet you.”

“Heechul-ah is getting along with Hae-ah” Shindong observed. Sungmin nodded.

“She gets along well with other children. I just wish she’d get along with me when it’s time for dinner…”

“She’s a picky eater?”

“Yes, very much so.”

“Don’t worry, no one can resist my food.” Shindong laughed.

“If she eats it, tell me what you did so she will eat what I make at home too” Sungmin teased.

Finally, a lanky man with brown locks exited the back room.

“Ah, Kyuhyun-ah! We have a new student!”

The man, Kyuhyun, looked to where Donghae was sitting with Heechul, explaining his picture while the girl nodded appropriately.

“She’s a cute one. Who?” his eyes drifted to where Sungmin was standing and they locked eyes.

Sungmin shivered involuntarily.

Kyuhyun seemed to look straight through him. The man’s expressionless eyes let none of his emotions be seen, yet at the same time, they showed everything.

“I’m Lee Sungmin. That’s my daughter Heechul.”

“What a pretty name…” Kyuhyun said, cocking half a smile.

Why am I shivering at the sound of his deep voice? Who did he just compliment anyway?

Kyuhyun exited the room into the kitchen, returning seconds later with a soda before walking back into the back room.

“Sorry about him,” Zhoumi said, sighing with his eyes. “He’s good with children, really. But with other people… he kind of zones out…”

“It’s fine…” Sungmin said, he voice shaky

“So, Sungmin-ssi, if you wouldn’t mind filling out this form, we can take care of Heechul!”

“Just keep me! I like it here with Hae betterer than at home!” the adults and Eunhyuk laughed.

Sungmin read over the paper.

Parent or Guardian’s name, Parent or Guardian’s work number, alternative contact…?

“Who would I list as an alternative contact?” he asked Hangeng. The man looked taken a back.

“Most women list their husbands, so I would suggest your wife?”

“Oh…” Sungmin looked down towards the table He quickly scribbled Leeteuk’s details before handing the paper back.

“Well Sungmin-ssi, I hope to see you and your wife Leeteuk very shortly!” Hangeng smiled.

“Leeteuk’s not my wife. She’s my friend’s wife. Her children are also going here.” Sungmin stated blankly.

“Oh…” Zhoumi said. “Oh!” he exclaimed.

“I think you’ll be the first single parent we have here...” Shindong mused. Sungmin smiled.

“It’s not all that bad once you get used to that fact your daughter is the devil.”

“Daddy, I heard that!” Heechul yelled from the colouring table.

“Inside voices!” said Sungmin sternly. Heechul pouted, but nodded anyway.

“You shall be seeing us soon then. Chullie, time to go home!”

“But I wanna stay with Hae!”

“You will see Hae and Siwon and Kibum later. I promise!”

“…Fine… does this mean we can have icecream?”

“… How did you get icecream from that?”

“I want icecream because you made me upset!”

“Fine, fine! Whatever you want flower, just don’t hurt me!” Sungmin laughed as he proceeded out the door, holding his baby girl. Hangeng and Zhoumi waved from the door.

“He’s interesting.” Sighed Zhoumi, leaning his head against Hangeng’s shoulder.

“His daughter is highly amusing.” The elder of the two smirked.

“Where did Heenim go?” Donghae asked, before he proceeded to look around the daycare for his new playmate.

“She had to go home with her appa, Hae-Hae. Speaking of which, we should probably be off too. Give Shindong, Zhoumi and Hannie a hug before we go, I’ll get your stuff!”

Donghae bounded over to the adults, being lifted into Hangeng’s arms easily and receiving a hug, before he moved along to Shindong, who gave the small boy a bear hug.

Zhoumi bent down to be on the same level as the small child, who hugged him. Donghae pulled back and Zhoumi pouted at him,  pointing to his cheek. Donghae smiled and gave him a sloppy kiss on the cheek.

“Are you gonna say goodbye to Kyuhyun?” Eunhyuk asked as he returned with Donghae’s belongings. Donghae shook his head.

“Kyu too busy playing on puter to hug Hae,” Donghae pouted. Eunhyuk picked up the boy.

“See you later guys!”

“Hey Kyu?” Zhoumi sat next to the man who had fallen asleep on the couch after taking a rest from his gaming.

“Ummmh?” the man stirred.

“It’s time to go home. Hannie and I are locking up sweetheart, so move your fat ass.”

“… Ugh…”

“You’ve been acting strange ever since this afternoon before Hae left. Do you miss him?”

“No, just thinking about that brat, Heechul.”

“Ah.”

“Her dad is weak, giving her everything she wants.”

“You can’t judge, you don’t know what it’s like to be a single parent.”

“If I was one, I’d beat her into line.”

“Who is this talking? Give me back my kyubear!” Zhoumi yelped in mock horror. Kyuhyun rolled his eyes.

“What gives Kyu, you love little kids!” Hangeng walked in suddenly causing the two to turn to face him.

“I do. I just feel she’s going to be hard to handle.”

“I’m sure she’ll be fine.”

“She’ll be very pretty when she grows up…” Zhoumi pondered.

“Hae is already drooling over her!” Hangeng agreed. Kyuhyun sighed angrily.

“Her father is also pretty cute…” Zhoumi said innocently. Hangeng looked offended.

“You aren’t gonna leave me for him!?” he questioned playfully.

“Never Hannie, but he was gorgeous. Not as handsome as our Kyubear, but still very good looking!” Hangeng nodded in agreement. Kyuhyun rolled his eyes.

“Can we not discuss how good looking other men are in front of me, please? Or even discuss how ‘handsome’ I am either while we’re at it?”

“Oh, we hit a nerve Hannie! Definitely time to go home! Ciao Kyubear!” Zhoumi sprinted out of the room.

“Since you’re still here, you lock up. Just remember to be on time tomorrow to open up, or otherwise we’ll be standing out in the cold again and Hae doesn’t like that.” Hangeng threw Kyuhyun the keys, which he caught with ease.

“Yeah, yeah. See ya!”

He heard the front door click and the sound of a car pulling away.

That Sungmin guy… why does he… and Heechul… she looks like sis… what is going on?

And why the hell did his voice make me want to vomit?
