Homeward Bound

August 26th - August 31st I'm off to England. The funeral will be on the 29th. This is not how I imagined my next trip to the mother country would be. In more ways than the obvious. However, it seems that life never seems to work out quite the way that we want it to.

The best laid plans of mice . . .

I bought Pinky and the Brain on DVD

. . . and men.

Let's see, anything else to update?

Tried fondue a few weeks ago. Shabu Fondue near the Chandler Mall. From arrival at the restaurant to leaving took more than 3 hours. Wait for drinks. Wait for them to take our order. Wait for them to bring the melting pots for our cheese. Wait. Wait. Wait for them to refill the melting pots as all the water has boiled dry while we waited. Cheese. Wait. Order main course. Wait. Food. Wait. Desert. Wait. Bill . . . $128 for 4 people. Okay, it was nice, but not THAT nice. Maybe if I divided it by the isanely long time we had to spend there it would seem more reasonable, but I wouldn't exactly call that much wait time a selling point.

Work . . . is work. I'm here, writing this right now, so that gives you some idea. Sadly, a couple of my favorite people in the office are leaving. One to ASU, one to another job. I wish them well and all, but I'll miss 'em.

I've come to the realization that my job involves too much politics and too many lawyers. It's not in my office, everyone there is great. But outside? Hoo-boy. Had a meeting on Tuesday. It was the State Water Quality Working Group who advises the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality on new treatment plants (among other things) regarding issues of water quality ONLY. So, the people who are not making money off our project show up and start making a fuss over planning areas and service areas. Nothing to do with water quality, and not the pervue of the committee. Which is stated by the chair. . . serveral times. But they keep waffling on and on, cutting in with their pointless comments. In the end the meeting ran half an hour over because of them, and I missed the farewell luncheon for the people leaving.

I realized something about these people. I run into the exact same kind of person on the internet a lot. The people who ask the same questions over and over again, claiming that they never get an answer. But they DO get and answer, it's just not the one they want, because nine times out of ten, that answer is NO.
