This fandom qualifies. It definitely qualifies. And I love the idea of amnesia!fic. Sherlock with amnesia, obviously. And set whenever (I haven't seen S3 yet - I KNOW, I AM TERRIBLE), but it could be set anytime Sherlock and Watson are working together.
I'm not going to actually write the fic, because I can't be bothered to come up with an actual case for it to centre around, but Sherlock would get some kind of selective amnesia in the middle of it, and be pretending not to freak out about it. I'm thinking selective amnesia. He wouldn't forget everything, just a week or so.
And he'd be trying to go forward, solving the case of his own amnesia, his own way. And Watson would be all, "Yeah, NO. I am a doctor. A medical doctor. I don't care about your experiences experimenting on human physiology via corpses. I understand causes and effects of selective amnesia better than you ever could. So Sherlock keeps having to defer to Watson's medical expertise ("Look, we both know you think I'm a more than competent medical doctor. It's half the reason you keep me around, so sit down and shut up while I get you in for a CT scan.") and to Watson's actual ability to remember what happened during the last week ("No, I don't remember how many buses passed while I was sitting on the bench. Because unlike you, I am not obsessive compulsive about those things.") And eventually, there would be out and out threats, ("Look Sherlock, if you don't start following my advice at least on medical matters, I'm going to be forced to call Mycroft, and neither of us wants that." And Sherlock would be furious with him for playing that card.)
I just think it would be such a fun example of Sherlock having to rely on another person for a little while.
Yep, Sherlock with amnesia would be loads of fun to write. And you're definitely right, selective amnesia would be the perfect thing - he would still remember who he is and be his usual smug self, all the while struggling to hide his vulnerability.
I would love John taking charge, especially if he threatens to call Mycroft if Sherlock doesn't agree to get checked. Your hints of dialogue are totally in character and absolutely hilarious too, I would definitely love to read that story if someone ever decided to write it.
(I would try to write it myself, but I definitely suck at casefics. Especially when there are medical issues to navigate around.)
As for season 3, I probably have to warn you that some people didn't like it at all. I liked it myself, but I still have to admit it's quite different from the previous ones.
