She's staring up at the ceiling, a bemused and puzzled expression on her face. She's also naked, her hands are also over her stomach.
"It's okay, Ramon. It happens to everybody. We'll try again later."
Ramon Salazar, inhuman lover of great strength and stamina, has just had a preemie.
First time for everything, she supposes.
Heh. She can't help it, she starts chuckling. Of course there would be a downside to this swap. Aside from the fact that they're 'unmarried', she's finding herself liking this version of Ramon. Casual. Laid-back. More modern. More in common with her. Not psychotic, on occasion.
But to balance that out, he's not the king of mattress dancing. Hooray.
She CANNOT and WILL NOT laugh at him. She's forcing those chuckles down, but still smirking a bit.
"It's...stress. Or something. Yeah." He's noticing those stifled chuckles and is currently looking sidelong away from the lady sharing this bed. "Or too much weed. Yes, cutting back really is the right idea."
Ahem. Rambling.
"I'm really sorry. Like you said, we can, uh, try again in a few seconds? I love you?"
He's never going to live this down, he can just feel it. But ah well. He'll live. He always does.
"I love you too. Sorry, I'm not laughing at you, I promise. It's just...yeah. I can't even begin to imagine how embarrassing that is. I'm sorry too. Not laughing. Not laughing..."
She makes a perfectly straight face, forcing her lips into something like a frown, but it doesn't last. After a beat, she bursts out laughing again, and rolls to the side, burying her face in the pillow.
"Pffft." He takes up one of the spare pillows and smacks her with it without bothering to look at his target. "Laugh it up, woman. You're the one who's having to go without some satisfaction for the next ten minutes. Or...something. Yeah, nevermind, I got nothin'."
"Hey, so are you, love." His arm goes around her shoulders, returning that hug tenderly. He's been careful of her stomach ever since she told him the news (again.)
"So how far along are you then? You're not really showing just yet, huh. When'd you know something was up?"
"I'm just now getting into my third month. My due date is mid-late November. My doctor says I'll probably start showing any day, now. Heck, I can tell myself already. Here, feel."
She rolls onto her back again, and gently guides his hand onto her stomach. Sure enough, just below her navel, there's a very subtle swelling. Impossible to notice with the eye, unless you're really looking for it.
"I was gonna tell everybody later this week, if that's okay with you."
His touch only brushes over her skin at first when she guides his hand, hesitant to handle her too hard or too much. But when he notices that, yes, there is a bit of a firmer bump forming there, and his hand rests against it a little more firmly.
"...Wow." That's a baby in there. His baby. This...really won't be so bad, if he thinks about it. He likes kids, and he doesn't have to worry about finances like most young men his age. He's got a lot to learn, of course, and a bit more maturity to gain before the kid arrives, but...Yeah, he can do this.
"...Huh? Oh, what? Oh, later this week. Right, yeah. Yeah, that sounds fine. They should know about this, shouldn't they?"
"A couple people already do. Djehuty and Ruthven. Gale. Eiko. But I'm gonna make a big announcement to everybody, yeah."
Those giggles have been there this whole time, but she suddenly settles down, looking at Ramon.
"Honey? I gotta admit. I'm kinda scared of telling a certain somebody. I don't know how he'll react. And...and, well, we might have to hide out here somewhere secret until it kinda blows over."
Okay, she's not traumatizing him any further. She's not dropping the plaga, baby AND former lover bombs on him all in the same day. Poor kid's been beat over the head enough.
She puts her hand over his, on her stomach, and relaxes.
"Whatever, I'll deal with it. Hey, I think I might take a nap. After all that vigorous coitus."
She blinks in astonishment for a moment, and her jaw drops once again. He sleeps. Ramon can sleep.
Oh, gawd, please let him remember this when he's back to normal. Or let his body remember how to do it. Or his parasite. Something. So perhaps he can finally get the rest that he so richly deserves and needs.
"Y-Yeah. Okay. Sounds wonderful, mi amor."
So, for the first time in their entire relationship, Hips gets to fall asleep with her husband, curling up into his arms and listening to his breathing slow down.
It occurs to her suddenly, after seeing him naked for how long now? That his scar and his barcode tattoo are missing, as well.
...Would it really be so bad if he stayed like this?
That could have some existential quandaries that he had been addressing just a second ago. He's a whole person, with his own memories and his own thoughts separate from the 'original' Ramon. Maybe this is some kind of displacement at foot? Maybe the 'real' Ramon is presently somewhere where this Ramon belongs?
Or maybe it's just like every other LOL and this Ramon is just a figment of some kind, fabricated by the Nexus' tricks.
Either way, it's not something he's concerned about right now, given that he's already curled up next to Hips, his breathing evening out and softening. Soon, after a few more mumbled 'I love you's, he's fast asleep.
Yeah. She knows that. Hence her own hesitation to make love to him. He really is a very different person now, and it feels so weird to be so intimate with him. And yet, it also feels right. He's still Ramon Salazar. He's still the same deep-down decent person he's always been, even when twisted by Los Illuminados.
But would it really be so bad if he forgot about that horrible past? If he was no longer a multiple murderer, a man-eater, tortured at the hands of Wesker? With his mother still alive out there somewhere?
Able to sleep? And probably eat real food without having to down pills every time? To be healthy, laid-back, sane? Okay, the whole marijuana smoking for fun and profit was no good, and the sex was sorta meh...but he was happy. Deep down in his heart, he was unworried, happy, relaxed.
He deserved that. ...Their baby deserved that.
She deserved that.
That's when the guilt hits her. How dare she? How dare she fall in love with him like this? How dare she abandon her actual husband and all of his problems
( ... )
And perhaps as further testament to that, and to the fact Ramon isn't entirely himself right now...
"...No, I mean it, I'm really sorry."
Lying next to her, clothing strewn about, hands clasped over his bare stomach, and an anxious, embarrassed look on his face.
"That...doesn't happen every time. You know that."

"Striking a pregnant woman! You beast, you cad, you underhanded scoundrel! Oh, woe is me, in such an abusive relationship!"
She grabs him around the middle suddenly, and hugs herself to him tightly, still giggling.
"Darling man. You're wonderful."

"I don't know how Deadpool is going to take it."

Hmm, seems like history is a little different for this Ramon as far as Wade Wilson goes.
