The Unread Book Meme

Oct 02, 2007 10:05

Gacked from everyone and his brother:

These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing’s users (as of today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicise what you started but couldn’t finish, and strike through what you couldn’t stand. The numbers after each one are the number of LTusers who used the tag of that book.

(I couldn't understand the tag thing so I just ignored it.)

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (149)
Anna Karenina (132)
Crime and Punishment (121)
Catch-22 (117)
One Hundred Years of Solitude (115)
Wuthering Heights (110) (I have a copy of this book and seem to recall reading it through, but I can't remember a thing about it other than Heathcliff's name.)

The Three Musketeers (44)

It seems that I 1) am not heavily into Gothic fiction and 2) have yet to discover the joys of Jane Austen. I must also go dig up my copy of The Iliad and try to finally finish it.

I'm also surprised that quite a few contemporary books are on this list. In my estimation, a book has to be around for quite a while before it can be considered "unread," unless this is defined as securing a copy of the book but not reading it.
