We got home from Baguio at 3 AM this morning. I tried to sleep in the car but that didn't work out very well so I feel icky. Fortunately today (April 9th) is Veterans' Day and a non-working holiday, so I have a day to recover from travel before re-entering the rat race (ugh).
I think Veterans' Day is like Memorial Day, so if you are Filipino, please take a moment to remember the people who fought for our freedom.
Lolo K was one such person. I don't think I've ever mentioned it here, but he graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1936 and fought in World War II. He specialized in field artillery, which could be the reason why Lola Z was a trained sharpshooter, LOL, and according to my mom was a Bataan Death March survivor.
My favorite wartime story about him is that when he was taken prisoner by the Japanese, Lolo K stood up in the POW cart/jeep/truck/whatever as they were being trundled past Lola Z's mother's house in Pampanga, just to let her family know that he was still alive. I just think that was a really cool thing for him to do.
Belated (?) Happy Easter to those who observe it :)
