Just Sharing: The House Pillow

Sep 29, 2005 08:25

When I was a child, we had a throw pillow at home that had a house appliquéd (sp?) on it. The pillow was brown check with an eyelet trim on it, and the house was made up of appliqués of different colors. I think there were even curtains and a plant in the first-floor window.

The reason why I remember so much about this pillow is because I spent quite a lot of time looking at it. My mom taught me to identify the different parts of a house on it. I learned where a "window" and "door" and even "chimney" were on a house (and wondered why we didn't have a chimney in our own house). And since my mom's an architect, she even taught me what a "portico" was on that pillow, although I have to admit I don't remember that; my mom told me about it.

The pillow sort of faded into the background when I got older. I don't think we have it around anymore - the last time I saw it (I don't know when) it was actually looking kind of tatty. Now I'm a bit sorry that it's gone. It would have been nice to save it.

But at least I can remember it.
