Back to school... first day of the semester delayed a bit and I don't even have class today. Brilliant. Besides getting my ass kicked at swim practice because I haven't really been in the pool for a month, it is wonderful to be back in Portland. This town has so much to offer and I haven't milked nearly enough from it during the past four years. London over winter break was absolutely inspirational- my snail DNA project looks like a winner, working at the Natural History Museum was incredible, drinking beer with the amazing people who work there was even better, and I love living in the city. There are so many amazing things about England- from the newspapers (well written and seemingly less biased than those in the US) to the public transportation, to the social atmosphere. My research advisors there were also a highlight, living with them was a blast and it was nice to have eons of time to sit around and discuss what I should do with my life. And they offered up another trip to Tanzania next summer, so I'm headed back to Lake Tanganyika in June.

2007: however did it get here so fast... the year I graduate from college, the year I have to become a real adult (hopefully not true, I don't ever want to become a "real" adult), the year I turn an ancient 22. 2007 started off with a bang, standing on the side of a houseboat in a harbor off London's Thames river with a bunch of screamingly intoxicated people and fireworks blasting everywhere, sipping on a glass (or chugging five) of champagne. A debacle of a night and a lovely way to start off another 365 days of my general awkwardness. Providing that I don't die, I will live on four different continents this year, three of them for scientifically related purposes. Completely insane. I suppose the general conclusion is that, as always, I have no idea what I am doing and that is perfectly fine by me. I have no idea where I want to go to grad school but I'm still looking forward to choosing one and hoping for the best. Ahhh gracious. But first I get one more semester in the LC bubble of happiness. Hopefully it will be the best yet.
