Jensen grinned as he took Jared by the hand and led him towards the boys’ locker room. He pushed open the door, stuck his head inside to check it was clear, and then dragged Jared inside.
“What the hell was in that punch?” Jared laughed as he was pushed up against one of the lockers, a metallic sound as his back hit the locker door.
Jensen shrugged, his hands gently resting against Jared’s chest. “Never had alcohol before. Kinda makes you dizzy, doesn’t it?” He said as he ran his hands downward and rested them on Jared’s waist. “Definitely dizzy,” he sighed and leaned into Jared, his mouth ghosting a kiss over Jared’s.
Jared smiled. “You’re drunk,” he noted.
Jensen shrugged. “Am I? I feel okay,” he decided.
Jared closed his eyes as Jensen kissed him, a lingering moment of warmth over his mouth. “Do you still want to, you know?”
Jensen sighed and pulled back. He looked up into Jared’s eyes and smiled. “Sure.”
Jared laughed, his hands wrapping in Jensen’s as he pulled him closer. “Only if you want to.”
Jensen closed his eyes, more kisses across his mouth and jaw, and spreading down the side of his neck. “I do.” He took a deep breath. “I think so.”
Jared laughed and nudged his nose against Jensen’s,, making him open his eyes. “The room’s already paid for. We can just see what happens.”
Jensen smiled, another kiss before he pulled away. “Maybe we should go and say goodnight to some people then,” he said teasingly.
Jared grinned. “Lead the way.”
It didn’t take long for the boys to find themselves back in the main hall. They stood together, subtly hand in hand as they looked out across the dancing students. “We should have one more dance,” Jensen suddenly suggested. “I like dancing.”
Jared smirked as he found Chad out in the centre of the mass of bodies, a girl that was definitely not his date wrapping herself around him. “Let’s join Chad,” he decided and pulled at Jensen’s arm, the other boy huffing tiredly as he was dragged forward.
Jared led Jensen onto the dance floor, weaving the pair of them between the teenage couples until they made it to Chad’s side. “Chadster!” Jared shouted, trying to make himself heard above the music.
“Oi!” Jensen said, considering himself helpful and then slapping Chad on the ass.
Chad jumped and spun around with a wide eyed expression as he looked between Jared and Jensen. He grinned, arms wide as he wrapped one around each of the boys’ shoulders. “Dudes, this punch is awesome,” he said, a cup in his hand as he pulled Jared closer, alcohol laced liquid splashing on the breast of Jared’s dark jacket. “Where’d Kiki go?”
Jensen frowned. “Last seen heading to the bathroom in tears,” he disclosed.
Chad leaned his head to one side, his forehead against Jensen’s. “Was it because I called her fat?” He said in a serious voice.
Jared pulled Chad back toward him, straightening the other boy up. “No, I think it was because she caught you with your tongue down Tonya Nixon’s throat,” he said sarcastically.
Chad shrugged and pulled his arms from around the boys’ shoulders as they got to the edge of the dance floor. “It’s not like I said we were exclusive,” he pointed out.
Jensen rolled his eyes and slouched down into one of the seats at one of many large round tables. He looked along the row, noting all the annoyed looking girls waiting for their dates to ask them to dance. He scratched a line across his brow, and gave a small yawn as he waited for Jared to finish coaxing the drink from Chad’s unsteady hand.
“Sit down would you?” Jared grumbled and nudged Chad backward until he flopped down in the chair beside Jensen. He laughed as his friend looked up at him, a strange expression on his face. “You okay?” He asked, taking a step back as he cleared what he considered to be the chuck up zone.
Chad raised a hand to his forehead.
“You gonna puke?” Jensen asked as he looked at Chad curiously.
“No. It’s my-”
“Head,” Jared interrupted, as he spun around.
“What?” Jensen asked, watching as Jared scanned the room. “What’s wrong?” The only feeling he was getting was from the alcohol.
“There’s something here,” Jared told Jensen.
“Where?” Jensen said as he got to his feet, suddenly a lot more awake and sober.
Jared shrugged. “Outside, perhaps.”
Chad shook his head and got unsteadily to his feet. “Closer than that.”
“Inside?” Jensen asked, as he quickly looked around the main hall.
“I think-”
The three boys looked up as there was a loud sound, doors bursting open and a screaming girl rushing into the mass of bodies on the dance floor. Her legs gave out as she found herself falling forward and sprawled out across the ground. Tears streamed down her face, there was a tear in the pretty dress she was wearing and a streak of red smeared across her shoulder.
“Kiki!” Chad realised and rushed forward, Jared and Jensen quickly in pursuit. He fell to his knees beside the shaken girl, people no longer dancing as they backed away from Kiki in surprise. “Baby,” he said as he pulled off his jacket and wrapped it around his date’s shoulders.
Kiki flinched as there was a crashing sound outside in the corridor. “Get me out of here,” she whimpered and held onto Chad’s arm.
“What is that?” A murmured question as the students stopped their dancing, the music fading to nothing.
There was another crash, a metallic sound echoing around the hall.
“Stay calm,” Principal Scott said as he appeared from amongst the group of stunned students. He himself stopped as there was another crash, a locker flying through the hall doors and skidding across the floor. There was a united cry; the student’s stepping back as a group. As the mysterious noises continued, a silence fell over the hall. Principal Scott cleared his throat, a hand in the air as he beckoned other members of the teaching faculty to his side. “I think we should move the students outside,” he told the adults, another locker thrown across the corridor. “Now,” he added
Chad gently helped Kiki to her feet, stepping back as a dark shadow was cast over the glass windows in the doors. “Er, Jay,” he said, and looked sideways at Jared. “Why’s it inside?”
Jared looked at Jensen, his only idea was that it could sense their combined power. “Help get everyone out,” he said to Chad, as he pulled his own jacket off his broad shoulders and threw it to one side.
“You can’t fight it here,” Chad risked pointing out.
“Just try and keep Scott and the rest outside,” Jensen told him. “It’s not like they can see anything anyway.”
“Just you two idiots,” Chad reminded him in a low voice, his arm around Kiki’s shoulder.
“Keep them out of the way,” Jared insisted. “No matter what, right?”
Chad nodded and moved with the rest of the students towards the exit.
“Think it’ll be like this at college?” Jensen suddenly asked, his eyes on the moving shadow behind the double doors.
Jared watched as the last of the students left the building, Chad pulling the heavy fire doors shut behind them. He doubted things would ever really be that different. “Probably,” he sighed, and looked faced Jensen. The hall was now empty, apart from Jensen and himself. He reached out his hand and waited for Jensen to take it. He smiled as he felt the warmth of Jensen’s skin against his, a soft light emanating from between them. He looked at Jensen, a nod as Jared made sure he was ready.
Both boys turned as there was a loud sound, and watched as the doors flew open. There was a flicker of the atmosphere as the demon landed on its clawed feet in the middle of the dance floor. It arched its body, a line of spines quivering along the length of it back, its bright yellow eyes narrowing as it looked at the two boys.
Jared held firmly onto Jensen’s hand, slowly raising his other as he felt his weapon forming in his hand. He breathed deeply, a sense of control as he wrapped his hand around the hilt of the glowing sword. He glanced to Jensen, the demon already within sight of his crossbow’s aim. Jared returned his attention to the crouching demon, his sword raised and a small smile spreading across his mouth as he and Jensen started to run in its direction. He smiled as he realised that in the end, despite college, he wouldn’t change this, Jensen, or his life, for anything else.
