Now this doesn't necessarily mean they were my favorite songs of the year, more like what songs will forever remind me of 2007. So with no further adiuex and in no particular order...
1) "Crank Dat" by Souljaboy - Any song that inspires a plethora of Youtube videos ranging from little gay ballet dancers to grandmothers doing their signature dance has got to be on this list. EVERY single gig I attended from the time the song came out until this very day, people STILL go crazy and proceed to at least try to Superman a ho. This song was also my Vegas birthday anthem :o)
2) "Shawty" Remix by Plies feat. Trey Songz & Pleasure - REAL TALK. I had this song on repeat on my Itunes for a straight week. I even put it on my MySpace for more than a day and that means a lot considering how indecisive I am when it comes to petty shit like that. I played it so much that it started to annoy OTHER people. Just something 'bout the hook and beat that made it so damn sexy. I ain't even gonna front either, it reminds me of Ricci when he played it at Fanatics when the club was almost over :o/
3) "Buy You A Drank" by T-Pain - This may just BE the song of 2007 for me 'cuz it even reminds OTHER people of me and almost a year later I STILL ain't sick of it. That damn T-Pain, u just gotta love his voice syntehsizing ass, and u gotta give credit to a man that takes the most simple subjects and turns them into hits making US feel like simpletons! This song totally reminds me of when I was in a happier place...HIN San Mateo back in March when I had my purple hair and was PIMPIN. Yah, that was before all the drama started *SIGH*.
4) "Umbrella" by Rihanna - OK, I so don't like this song at all. I didn't even bother illegally downloading it but I ain't gonna lie, it was EVERY FUCKING WHERE this year and the broad can't evne fuckin sing! Immediately after it came out there were already like 3 covers of it too!
5) "Shawty is the Shit" by The Dream - Another song I had on my Myspace for a minute. It's gotta be the "cute" beat and infectious hook...which really isn't a hook at all I guess considering he says, "And I don't need no hook for this shiiiiit." Yet another song that reminds me of Ricci, I guess 'cuz it came out around the time we started talking and it played in the background when he called me from Against All Odds and we both agreed it knocked.
6) "No One/Like You'll Never See Me Again" by Alicia Keys - No One definitely is more popular and got way more airtime BUT Like You'll Never See Me Again is like my love song of the year. It's so beautiful it doesn't even get me sad and is the ONLY slow song I can actually listen to without wanting to kill myself. The lyrics are just so touching and the way she sings the song makes me want to cry. Matter of fact, I'm gonna go listen to it right now LOL.
7) "Because of You" by Neyo - Good God this song really got a lot of me and my friends in trouble this year LMAO. The lyrics even matched our situations. We already know Neyo is an incredible song writer, combine that with that introducion bass line and repetitive chorus and u got urself a hit!
8) "Let it Go" by Keyshia Cole - I got sick of this song real fast but I loved it when it came out. Had girls all over the place feeling like they didn't need their triflin ass nigga no more and shit. It was the "Real Love" of 2007 where when they'd play it at the club all the females would go, "Awww shit this is my jam," then proceed to dance like "Daaaaamn that's hot!"
9) "Bed" by J. Holliday - There's songs that make you want to fuck. Make you want to be a freak. Make you want to give head. Make you even want to have sex. But this song straight makes people want to have babies. Like make love for a cause and shit LOL. Who knew an annoying noise "Eh-eh-eh-eh" could be so sexy? Esp. coming from a scrawny (but cute) mufucka like J. Holliday? This song took people by a storm and it was surpringing too 'cuz he came outta nowhere. But damn if I hear another nigga say, "Put on that Victoria Secret thang that I like..." it's over.
10) "Good Life" by Kanye - Officially the feel good song of the damn year. Even in my most depressing times (And trust me there was a lot) I played this song before gigs just to give myself the strength to look in the mirror and put makeup on. As soon as the beginning of the song drops, I want to grab a glass of champagne and celebrate it don't even matter what for!
AYE, AYE, AYE, AYE, AYE - I'M GOOD!
Honorable mentions are : International Players Anthem by UGK, Hood Figga by Gorilla Zoe, Swag by J. Valentine, ad Sweetest Girl by Wyclef feat. Akon and Weezy. Yes I am aware that all these songs are either R&B and Rap but I was off the hook with gigs at jiggy clubs that only play this stuff.
OMG I totally forgot about my baby-daddy shame on me. If T.I. wasn't on house arrest and up in the scene with the rest of these fools it would've been on here fasho - BIG THANGS POPPIN. Holler!. Oh and other honorable mentions, Wipe Me Down, Walk it Out, and Aye Bay Bay.
