Well, I just participated in the 10th annual Fr. Enright writing contest. Had to write an essay on one of four topics, had 2 hours to do it. Well, I spent just about all of the two hours, and I wrote two of the essays. All four of the essay topics were quotes taken from people. I chose one said by some Russian guy, that resembled "The grass is always greener on the other side", 'cept a little more full; I also chose one said by Abraham Lincoln, about how America will never be conquered from the outside, but if America loses its freedoms and all, it will be from the inside. The one I wrote on the Russian guy was quite repetitive, but at least once in each paragraph, I said something brilliant: Props to Abby for the philosophy she told me of, and props to the History Channel, because two of the five brilliant things I said were from them. The essay I wrote on America was much less repetitive, a little shorter, much more organized and diverse, but lacked the creativity of the other one. Since we could only enter one essay each, I entered my one on America, because 1) I feel more strongly for the topic, 2) If the teachers who grade the essays have a strong sense of nationalism, I think I'll be on the dot in keying their interests, and 3) Its organization, I think, would get me more points than the bursts of creativity in the other one would get me.
Anyway, if I take first, I get $250.00, second, $150.00, or third, $100.00. Of course, apparently, each essay must be read by each of CC's English teachers at least 3 times in the preliminary round, and then I don't know how many times they have to read it or w/e to find the winner from the finalists, but basically, if I do get any of the prizes, I'll have to wait a while for them.
On another topic, that Fable of Flowers and Love that I mentioned in my last post, it's almost done. I was thinking of doing three different endings, a happy one, a sad one, and an indifferent one, but I dunno. I think I may post on here however far I've gotten soon.
