is like a kitten when he sleeps kind of
in that if you rub him he will make happy noises
but if you wake him abruptly
he will CLAW YOUR FACE OFF

Where Danny finds out about the claw-your-face-off part first
b/c Steve falls asleep on stakeouts or whatever
And then is like NINJA CAT awake all of a sudden when Danny bumps him
But then they start sleeping together and one morning
Danny wakes up before Steve, who sleeps kind of sprawled on his back, becuase he's the most restless sleeper
it's like he has to burn calories in his sleep, Jesus
Anyway Danny kind of reaches for him and forgets about the don't -wake-him rule but Steve just hums a little when Danny scratches at his stomach

leupagus: and shifts closer, kind of lizard-brain heat-seeking, and Danny's never seen Steve like this, loose and sleepy and - he's drowsy, is what he is, like they're spending a lazy morning in bed and Steve can't imagine anything better
And Danny lets Steve curl into him and flop a proprietary leg across his hip
gyzym: and, okay, maybe a little bit
he traces the hair at the nape of steve's neck
very lightly with the pad of his thumb
because on the one hand, steve's all soft, but on the other hand danny knows
that he is a ticking time bomb of crazy
and should not be woken suddenly
so he traces the hair like it's a lifeline, lets his fingers creep up to rubs little circles into steve's scalp

gyzym: and steve lets out a rumbling sort of sigh and relaxes even more, smacks his lips and doesn't open his eyes
