jdksfhj, okay, so, I totally almost called this story "happiness like a bullet in the back" because, yes. My favorite thing about these guys is how they're so deeply fucked up but good people anyway, and actually I may end up writing the...Steve version...of this story tonight, because AUGH, IT JUST WON'T GET OUT OF MY HEAD.

It's just like, okay, they're just both such disasters, right, and for all Steve is hard work to love Danny leaves Steve at sea so much of the time, because he's this like, furious ball of malcontent half the time and Steve spent the first half of his life learning to mellow out and the second half learning how to compartmentalize. So Danny, with his every thought on his sleeve--hell, no, on his lips, because he doesn't filter anything, ever, at all--just leaves Steve going WHAT.

Plus plus plus there's the fact that sometimes there's this quiet acceptance in Danny's eyes for things no one should accept and it reminds Steve of his dad and OH MY GOD I AM GOING TO BURN MY SALMON BUT YES I HAVE PLANS, CATE, PLANS.
