Instead, like a middle school girl with a fucking crush, he'd said "You know my name." He'd realized his mistake a second too late, but before he could start stammering an excuse, Neal raised both eyebrows and offered him a slow, enthralled smile. He looked like himself for the first time since Peter had arrested him.
"I have the whole time," he'd said, and he'd continued to smile at Peter until the bailiff had grunted and yanked him away.
Oh, man. Here is where the crowd went wild. Neal's enthralled smile! And Peter's honesty. Good lord. You wrote that instant of recognition like it was so easy and dang! I can just see it happening in my mind and weirdly it feels like one of my favorite moments from the show...if you get what I mean...anyway, thanks for writing!!!

That scene was one of my favorites to write :D It's absolutely trying to parallel their relationship in the show...I can think of a few different moments I was sort of pulling on there. And I love that the rest of it right true for you and AHH, thank you!
