Driving Ms. Dorothea - Last of a Series (we hope)

Jul 26, 2005 17:43

Another bad night last night (made worse by C aggressivly hogging most of the bed, and snoring like a bulldozer in synchrony with L), but coping better today during the day. And a good thing, too, because:

Mom has been down in Boston for her 6-week follow-up check-up, and today I drove her back to Wmst. (J drove her down on Sunday, check-up was Monday, Tuesday was going back.) Her recovery has been just amazing - all the walkers folded up and put away, ditto the living-room sofa-bed, doesn't need the crutches at all anymore, and a cane only for long distance walks outdoors (which she's supposed to be doing more and more of, as therapy, heat & humidity permitting, of course). Her doctor (well, her NP) has cleared her to resume driving, but of course she had to get back home first, which is why I still had to chauffeur, but for the last time, at least for this particular storyline.

Things noted on the trip:
The old Howard Johnson's is now "The Williamstown Financial Center"; Williamstown didn't need no steenkeeng "Financial Center" when I was growing up! The Erving cut-off is looking closer and closer to being done - the parts we can see from the existing road, at any rate. Looks like work might be beginning on widening Rte. 2 on Death Alley, along the Orange-Athol stretch; that would be a Good Thing, if and when. Helen's on Spring St. (once site of Ken's Market) make a darn good Reuben sandwich.

That is all. For now.
