GNE was

Saturday was day-tripping up to GNE. First and foremost, the weather was remarkably beautiful, certainly the best at GNE in a long, long time: whenever the wind stopped completely it did feel hot, but that was rare; lots of small decorative clouds during the height of the day kept the worst of the sun off (plus, this year I remembered my straw hat!) but things were nonetheless still light instead of dim, and by the end of the afternoon the sky was crystal-clear, except for a big ol' quarter-moon. (True, that gorgeous Saturday came at the price of some pouring rain the night before, I hear, but well, I wasn't there.)

Secondly, my class on "A Walking Tour of Agincourt" was something of a success: lots of people attended (although none, I note, of the people who expressed interest when I first proposed the concept) and all stuck with it for the length of the walk; we got to talk with archers and watch a field battle at appropriate points in the class; we got a rather visceral appreciation of the (slightly surprising) fact that the length of the English line was more than twice the distance between that line and the French; and we all got to move around in the fresh air, which was much better for us than sitting inside even the nicest of A&S tents. (Although speaking of which, C's class on making of coiled baskets was well-attended and of interest to more, even though they did stay sitting inside their tent.)

And then we went off to spend the night indoors in a hotel. Speaking of which, I strongly recommend the restaurant Fish Bones in Lewiston ME (not the same as Fishbones in Chelmsford MA, though I hear that is quite good too). Trying to be upscale, but being in Lewiston it's not terribly pricey, and the tastes are amazing. And then home again on Sunday, stopping by Old Orchard Beach to score some pier fries.

And tomorrow: start new job! (Surprisingly lot of new jobs just started or just starting soon, among the bunch of us sitting around not going to court yesterday.)
