I am still riding the rollercoaster that is this semester. I am hitting some pretty big peaks, followed by some low valleys. Everytime something great happens, a midget runs over and punches me in the balls. It is weird I tell ya.
Speech news! I already posted how we finished at Gatlinburg 2 weeks ago. The weekend before last was KCFL, which is our national qualifier. We managed to qualify 6 girls for nationals! On top of that we have 2 alternates who might get a chance to go as well. As a team we finished in 2nd place and took the Continued Excellence award for the first time ever! We also managed to win Oral Interp for the 4th year in a row. Word.
Last weekend was the KHSSL State tournament. We didn't do quite as well as last year, but we exceeded our expectations. We placed 10 girls in semi finals and 3 in finals. They took home 6th in Humerous Interp, 3rd in Broadcasting, and 3rd in Prose. As a team we finished 4th place! I thought the highest we could finish was 5th, and that would take some work. These girls are amazing!
Schoolwise I am exhausted! Having out of town speech trips 2 out of the past 3 weekends has taken a lot out of me. Plus the workload has been increasing to catch up from the ice storm and to get it out of the way before spring break. I am going to have a collapse day Saturday probably. Geology is on the upswing for sure. I even scored the highest grade in the class on the last test. I got to take a rock to keep. I got a very cool garnet. I know it sounds kinda grade schoolish, but I am VERY proud of that rock. Want to know what I am not proud of? The Pinnacle Honor Society. I got nominated, which was cool, but didn't get in. The reason from the form letter?
"To strengthen your application for next year, I would encourage you to continue your outstanding commitment to academics, to become more involved in campus or civic organizations, and to seek new ways to volunteer your many skills and talents in service to others. "
Are you fucking kidding me?!?!?!?! I volunteer hundreds of hours to AHS each year. I am starting a speech team at the university. I know it isn't there yet, but give me some time. We will be on the circuit next fall, mark my words. I am not happy about that. I am going back and forth about whether I want to pursue a reevaluation or more of a personal response, or just forget it. All I know is that it was the midget who punched me in the balls today. Time to go grab some lunch before Census Bureau tonight.
