Well, I see it as more covert because for one, no one's noticed this until now, whereas last season we got blatant heartseyes and airhearts and closeness and touching (the ep where Danny has to wear flowers and latches on to Steve's shirt in a vain attempt to explain his horror about cruise ships and having to take off his tie, for example....and the obvious lack of personal space between the two of them that was so evident in almost every episode).
Just seems as if things like that have been toned way down this season.
I think there have been plenty of heatseyes this season, but I get what you're saying - I don't think there has been something akin to the "I <3 You" Danny throws at Steve in 1.20.
I don't think it has been toned down, but they have made it more subtle and the amount of time Danny and Steve spent on their own with each other this season was significantly reduced.
I have a couple of theories about why S2 is so different from S1, speaking of bromance, but I'm not going to talk about them. Maybe you're right, the bromance is still there, they've just undertoned it, but I can't help feeling nostalgic thinking about the good old McDanno we used to know... *sighs*

Yes. This is what I was getting at. Subtle is a much more appropriate word.
