To be brutally honest (and I have no reason to be otherwise), I have no idea. I switched off a large part of my philosophical side, partly because I was turning into a raving nihilist, which doesnt leave a lot of room for... much at all. Might print this out at work and read through it again.
Maybe I need to get back into reading less fiction, more philosophy/politics. Any suggestions?
Discourse on the Origin and Basis of Inequality Among Men by Jean-Jacques Rousseau.
The World as Will and Representation (often called 'The World as Will and Idea', though 'Representatation' is a more accurate translation) by Arthur Schopenhauer.
As you rant about (Pauline) Christianity you might find 'Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas' and 'The Gnostic Gospels' by Elaine Pagels interesting, as it's about the other (and actually, older) form of Christianity which has much in common with Shcopenhauer's mysticism.
I used to be very, very anti-Christian, without realising precisely what I was anti about. I think a lot of people never expand out of that mindset. Like, not liking mangoes, but never actually experiencing a mango. Personally I think they're revoltingly sweet and messy.
Rousseau, Schopenhauer, looks like I'll be hitting the library after work. I've never had the remotest guidance in these matters, tending to drift towards names or concepts I run across in prolific reading. I think I was reading a biography of an SS General (or was it the Stalingrad book?) when I decided to have a look at Nietzsche. Must've been a fun guy when he was out at the pub eh?
lmao - I just re-read this, for old time's sake. Gods. What a whiny little... nerd. No offence to your brother of course.
This must be one of my unlocked entries. I can't even remember the last time I wrote one of those. Then again, I can't remember writing anything substantial in a while to be honest. Ah, the ubiquitous angsty poet/writer, I really should find a new gig, I'm getting too old for this.
C'mon, everybody rants - I bet you've got a few tucked away somewhere?
99% of my journal is locked and it's just a huge pile of embarrassing! it's why i don't add people to my f-list. sorry for e-stalking you and finding your rant :p
It's a journal, it's supposed to be embarrassing! It's the whole extrovert/introvert duality bidness. At least in keeping it locked, you can sort of control who sees what I suppose.
lol@e-stalking - no need for an apology, already briefly checked out your profile page, sincerely trying not to make a faux pas comment about your eyes. Green! Very rare. I'm not a creep! Usually. Ah, I'm male, it's a given I think.
