small joys

I harvested the first "real" veggie from my garden today: an eight-ball squash.  Sliced it and sauteed it with an onion,  julienned carrot, and a sprinkling of Herbes de Provence.  It was heavenly, without a doubt the finest zucchini I've ever tasted, sweet and buttery.  (I've harvested lettuce too, but it doesn't count, it's just leaves.)  Tomatoes, wax beans and one cherry hot pepper are ripening.  Snow peas are climbing the poles and flowering delicate pink and burgundy flowers.  Some strawberries set last month in the struggling strawberry patch; Michael ate most of them.

I changed my name.  It took a while to decide to do it.  I'm over 50% with the various paperwork changes (Drivers license, SSN card, work ID, bank accounts, etc.)  so I'm at an awkward stage of trying to use the new name consistently.  It's kind of odd sounding and cool sounding at the same time.  No more "coffee" jokes, although now I get the "Every rose has a thorn / thorne in my side" jokes instead.  The new name sounds kind of sleek and cool, almost fake, kind of like a superhero...or a porn star.  And one of my co-workers has nicknamed me "T2".  I kind of like that.  :)
