I do not, as a rule, do reaction posts to episodes of shows I watch. But I have a few questions about Doctor Who "End of Time part 1" so I'll put them behind the cut and you can read as you wish and react as you are moved.
1. Am I the only one who automatically reached out to hug Wilf?
2. Am I the only one who was suspicious of Donna's fiance? Unjustified or not?
3. Am I the only one who wants to know why, since Donna obviously has a "type," the fellow from "Silence in the Library" who was her ideal man was not of her type?
4. Am I the only one who still wants to smack Sylvia, even Master!Sylvia?
5. Am I the only one who thinks Joshua and his daughter Abigail Naismith are about the squickiest father/daughter team ever? On any show?
6. Am I the only one who found the cactus people (Wilf hit that one right on the head) annoying? I'm sure they're vital to the plot and all but they are certainly annoying me!
7. Am I the only one who thinks the return of the Time Lords may not be a good thing?
8. Am I the only one who is expecting Jack Harkness to return from his intergalactic sulk in part 2? And am I the only one who HOPES TO HELL HE DOESN'T?
8a. Ahem.
9. Am I the only one who thinks (conversely to #7) that the return of the Time Lords can be a good thing? Romana, the Rani, Valeyard...need I say more? (Anyone else recognize the name K’Anpo Rinpoche? No? Me, either. I had to look him up.)
10. And, last but not least, am I the only one who is wondering how long it took some writer (RTD or one of his flunkies) to realize that "knock four times" could refer to the Master's insanity rhythm and then exploit that in this episode?
All of that said, YES I enjoyed the heck out of this episode. I completely forgive the whole "Book of Saxon" bullshit because it was necessary for the plot. Well, and it was conceivable since people who were on the "Valiant" remembered it all and it's possible all the women in that room were on the "Valiant." And the "imprint" nonsense can be forgiven since we know that the Master did things to Lucy's mind so the imprint is possibly in her altered body chemistry. (Although it sure looked like it was in her lipstick.) And I can forgive the costuming department for putting the imprisoned Lucy Saxon in a skimpy slip (not to mention lipstick) because, HELLO! it looked adorable on her.
I know that Ten will die in the next segment. I know he'll be replaced by Matt Smith's Eleven. And I'm prepared for it. I'm surprised, though, at how sad I am. I've always been easy enough about the change from Doctor to Doctor, but the switch to Eccleston as Nine was the happiest for me (insofar as it meant the series was back) and I always regretted losing Nine as quickly as we did. Three will always be my "first" Doctor, and Seven will always have my heart as my favorite (Nine coming in second.) But I will miss Ten. I will miss him a whole lot. He endeared himself to me in many ways, ways I didn't even notice until just now when I see that his end is near.
And now I'm off to bed although I have an inexplicable desire for rotisserie chicken....
