Mine that Bird and Advice to run in the Kentucky Derby this year.. both are from Sunland Park Race Track..and local!! I might not be watching the race.. but damn.. one of these years... I will be able to have my mint julep and wear a gorgeous hat.. yeap yeap yeap...
heck I already have all the mint.. now I just need the whiskey and the liquior!!! LOL...
1 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey
1 1/2 oz Southern Comfort® peach liqueur
4 - 5 fresh mint sprigs
1/2 oz sugar syrup
Muddle your sprigs of mint with sugar or powdered sugar then, fill glass with crushed ice and pour alcohol into a pre chilled collins glass. Mix gently and serve.
If you want it traditional.. then put it into a chilled silver cup filled to the rim.. and use Kentucky Colonel mint
I have been to a horse race once..when I was real young.. and yes it was at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.. I wasn't really thrilled with it.. but then again.. it was hot, sweaty, smelly and I couldn't see very much.. now that I have grown up (cough, cough).. I realzie that the experience was clouded by my detesting hot, dusty conditions.. ha ha.... I do so love the horses.... I remember when I was a girl scout (yes I was a girl scout...) I couldn't wait till summer camp.. twas the only time I could care for and ride horses... a few years ago, we lived next to a horse stable, but they didn't allow help (at least not when I asked)... though they did let the kids pet the horses at times... one of these days, I will have to see how much it would cost to borrow one and ride the trails at the cabin with Kadin.. oh how I miss horses.. such fine sensible animals... LOL
