Yes, I do need to know who you are

I work at a call center for a company that handles home warranties. Basically you buy a warranty for your electric wiring/water line/sewer line/whatever and then when you have a problem you call me and I schedule service for you.

When scheduling that service, dear customer, I am going to have to know who the hell you are. I will ask you for your telephone number, name and address so that I can make sure I have the right account and don't give you incorrect information or schedule service under the wrong contract. We service over a million contracts, so you would think this whole process would be self evident.

Don't get snippy with me when I ask you for that information. If you would have just given it to me when I initially asked we could have saved ourselves loads of time.

Yep, dear, sweet and wonderful customer, you will have to do this EVERY time you call and you probably will speak with a different person nearly every time you call. We are a call center. That's kind of how we work. Just shut up and stop getting offended by non-issues and we can see about getting your problem fixed much quicker.
