Yesterday in My Sociology Class We Talked about Disney
And we watched this film called Mickey Mouse Monopoly. (I've seen it before, it's on youtube. If you watch it, look out for the British woman Gail Dines. That's my professor)
And I agreed with many of things the films was saying. Disney's Extreme Marketing needs to be stopped. They definietly have stereotypical images of women, men, and people of color in there films.
After we watched the film we had a discussion. Now, it's pretty well known at my school that I like Disney. So when she was waiting for people to say something she said, "How bout you. I want to hear your thoughts you're miss Disney." and I said "Well I do actually agree with most of what it's saying. However, I don't think you need to ban it from Children, because that could backfire. You just need to talk about it." And she agree. THEN, we started talking about the princesses (because y'know, Disney is only about princesses, *eyeroll *) and I said "Well they all have differently personalities. Ariel's brave, Belle is smart..:" and she cut me off to say "Hardly. Marrying a batterer isn't smart." WHICH IS TOTALLY RUDE BECAUSE MANY INTELLIGENT WOMAN FALL VICTIM TO ABUSE, YOU TWAT. So then I said "Well, I think Disney is just like everything else. It has good and bad." And then I cant' even go on before she is yelling at me and telling me "WHATS GOOD?! WHATS GOOD?!" And Im like "It teaches you to be a good person and to follow you're dreams." And she's like "WHAT A DREAM TO GET MARRIED. PFFTT"
I WAS GETTING SO FRUSTRATED. NEWSFLASH, CUTTING PEOPLE OFF DOESN'T MAKE YOU SOUND INTELLIGERNT, IT MAKES YOU SOUND LIKE A DOUCHE.
