Brazil 2009: Part 6 "Feliz Ano Novo!"

Jan 17, 2010 16:51

These aren't in great order but I want to get everything in regardless...

So we spent New Years (Ano Novo!) with Ana's family, first at one of her father's houses and then at a FANCY PARTY with a total techno rave in the back lol.

At Joaon's house we just sat around an counted down watching crazy Brazilians on the TV. We went out on the the balcony, which overlooked the beach and a main street and we could see hundreds of people partying and celebrating. People in the US need to go to Brazil to learn how to party. This was actually a 24 hour event and I think many people literally danced for 24 hours straight.

No one told us that EVERYONE wears white on New Years. It is supposed to be that you wear white if you want peace for the coming year, yellow if you want money, green is something else, and red is PASSION. Well, Angi, Nanna and I all had our "fancy" outfits that happened to be BRIGHT red, so in case me being the ONLY girl in Maceio with WHITE skin and BRIGHT RED hair didn't get me enough attention, now the three of us were an unlikely trio advertising our desire for PASSION! Lol. Nanna got made fun of a lot!

We taught Nanna how to do Myspace Pix Hahaha!

This was the first day I got to see my sisters, Gabby and Marina, in a few years! It was so weird an exciting. Gabby is 26 now and Marina is 29. They both have serious jobs and steady boyfriends (both are very nice) but they both look totally the same! (I kept having to adjust my camera settings going outside in the dark and inside in the light and it got a little crazy there - sorry)

I got to see my "brother" Vito too, but as when he lived with me he seemed mostly disinterested in us or in family affairs. He is a Party Boy, who while walking to each family get together we would see playing cards and drinking consistently all day with a group of guys who would show up later to get food and leave. Eh. Maybe he'll grow out of it...

I got to know Beatriz aka Bia or just B, Gabby and Marina's cousin, and found her to be the self proclaimed "alternative" of the family. She is 24, which was nice since I spent most of the trip with 19 year olds and a 14 year old boy. As you can see amongst the fancy white dresses she was in jeans and a t-shirt lol, not to mention her light skin and red hair makes her a shining beacon of weird. I like her. :) I'm trying to convince her (and her mother) that she should come live with me in Chico for a while.

The girl on the left below is Rinata. She is 17! Even the 12 year olds in Brazil look 25! She is absolutely beautiful and tall and I think she should play Pocahontas at Disneyland lol. She lived in Canada for a while in the crazy snow and like most of the family she speaks great english. She really misses American junk food which they have in Canada but not in Brazil. (the junk food in Brazil is freakin TERRIBLE btw, BEEF flavored Ruffles?? WTF???) And she went on and on about how she missed Boston Creme pies and Goldfish crackers and REESES IN PEICES!!!! Lol. I am gunna have to send her a care package.

The party we went to afterward was nice, but dull for us who weren't wasted, so Juliana stole Gina and I away and took us to the secret party in the back. Woa! Strobe lights, techno music, and people attempting to sway their hips to it samba style LOL! The DJ was from the US and he was accompanied by a fantastic Brazilian girl. The music was really great - but the people had NO idea how to dace to that type of music! It was adorable! And SO fun!!!

We ended up being out until about 8 or 9am - even Nanna made it the whole night! As we walked back people were STILL danicng off their balconies, in the streets and on the beach!
My family was very happy in Brazil. I think we should all move there.
