I've had the same exact problem! My dermatologist has no idea what the problem is. Not stress based in my situation either.

What did he put you on - and is it working?

She gave me some ointment to put on it, which sort of worked, but it still flares up.

I now have a similar freakish rash on my legs, which she thinks is from swelling (or as she put it, "edema," which is a far scarier word IMHO) in my legs because (big shock) I am fairly sedentary and a big fattie (my word, not hers).

So I have ointment for that as well, and am trying to walk more, which she thinks will get the swelling down and, thus, get rid of the rash.

She also said if the rash on my arms kept coming back, she could biopsy it to see what exactly it is, but I'm not all that keen on that right now. :p
