Well, so, I'm here in the Gold City of Samargqand, gaping at the wonders of the Silk Road in modern day Uzbekistan, and you're stuck somewhere else. This place is truly remarkable and you can see while Jengis Khan cried and was depressed for his whole life after he destroyed it, and even Alexander the Great said it was more beautiful than he could have imagined and that was 2300 years ago. Be jealous. If you're jealous, you can look at pictures when I get them developed. Some of the mosques here take your breath away, and there is Uzbek culture everywhere. Uzbeks are incredibly nice people(not like mean Kazakhs or cold Russians), and they make good shashlik(shish kebab to the laymen). We had lamb shashlik for supper and it had coriander on it and it was delicious. Tomorrow we are going to Bukhara which is supposed to be better than Samarqand, and we're excited. I'm reading Angela's Ashes right now(taking a break from Sharpe, of whom I've read six books in a row back to back nonstop), and it makes me feel Irish. I know I shouldn't, but sometimes I just do feel Irish. I've decided to stay in Almaty a while longer at the expense of my Provo job(Gerrit will be pissed, but he'll live). I've become some what smitten with a Russian girl named Oksana that I only knew for one night(but it was a really long night) and haven't kissed(but I will if I stay in Almaty longer, I'd bloody well better because I always wind up regretting not kissing girls that I should have), but even though I know nothing can truly come of it, it's like Aren says, I'm a lover, and I'm not on my mission yet, so I'm still allowed to love. But I'm also just not ready to go back to Provo. Pang. Pang. Major regrets in life:
1. I'll never get to die for Ireland
2. I wasn't kidnapped by Irish gypsies from my parents in Galway and sold to my new parents in California, despite what I keep telling my mom and dad.
3. There are two girls I never kissed that I direly wish I had.
4. I'll never get to die for Ireland
5. I was too young in Africa
6. I'll never get to fight the Krauts in WWII
7. I'll never be an officer in the colonial army that occupied India in the early 20th century
8. I'll never get to die for Ireland
9. I wasn't a better teenager
10. I took too much for granted in life.
