62 bats in my care now. Made a count today!
Most of them are hibernating (room with 3-5°C; reptaria with 80-90% humidity) but I have to check them on a daily basis (weight, umidity, cleaning, feeding if necessary).
And its real cold here and will stay that way during the next days - good for me as they are sleeping but if it gets warmer then they awake.... the room has only a window opened for letting in cold air.... as long as it is cold it works well but if it gets warmer I have to feed the batties.
Or it gets warm as in spring for a few days - then I can release 2 species, they are very tough with respect to low temperatures.
But up to now it was only one or two days warmer but very windy, which is a no for bat release, and then freezing again.
I do not have such a lot of space, just one hibernation room where 8 reptaria are stored for this purpose. If dozens of bats are coming in I have a problem!
During the last years it always was possible to release on warm days - so maybe this winter a few spring days will come too.
