dearest author santa, please forgive me for how long i've taken to leave an adequate comment here! i was on the road for the holidays and it seems like i'm still in beach mode coming back to work this week!! (as an aside, i'm also typing this at work -- the only place i manage to stay awake -- so i'm clearly not in work mode just yet.)

so first of all, i want to tell you how much i love hyungjoon/jungmin (if it wasn't obvious from my prompt), and more than that, i love how you wrote their dynamic and all of the boys as individuals. i felt like they were realistic, funny, irreverent, confused, and a little dark, all in one... which is so true to life! they are real boys (men? lol, they're of age but idk about of mind), not these perpetually happy balls of fluff (which, admittedly, i'm guilty of characterizing them that way sometimes), so it's definitely refreshing to read something like this.

i love that you wrote f4 into this. i love your description of the girl hyunjoong is marrying... again, it's so real that i can actually envision it! and i love that kyujong is the one to relay the news -- somehow i see it happening that way irl. and idk if this was intentional at all, but it made me think of kyujong and hyungjoon as hwangbo's favorite "in-laws" in wgm, and i like how here they were equally clueless (but also more careless in conducting themselves, with the cameras off).

family was ridiculously good at making someone feel guilty. he came across an old pair of boxers and threw them towards his bedroom door. they hit the wall and fell in a heap.
i'm sorry, i know i keep repeating myself, but i can't express enough how much i love the realism of this. in fandom, hyungjoon is so often the perfect brother that it's nice to see this side to his relationship with kibum. he loves his brother, but he's tired. he's not always the role model. he has bad days like anyone else. i think you do such an effective job of making him relatable. from the beginning, i want to know what else is going to happen to hyungjoon in this day, i'm invested.

it was easier to deal with a guy that does everything he can to get on his nerves if he was inebriated first. jungmin was one of those guys that barged into your life and stayed there, and no matter how much hyungjoon liked him and considered him a brother in arms, jungmin was the wild card that you played at the dire moments to get the game back in your hands.
this is such a great description of tom and jerry. no matter how many times i watch ss501 stuff, i'm always fascinated by the push and pull of their relationship. i love how jungmin gets a kick out of torturing hyungjoon, but when it comes down to it, during incidents like the surprise birthday party/hidden fancam, jungmin is also the first to comfort hyungjoon because he doesn't like to see him hurt. i think you really capture that here, with drunk/giggly/frightened hyungjoon and charismatic/predatory/unapologetic jungmin. i love the juxtaposition of all the foreign, ~worldly~ clothes and accessories jungmin wears with the simple fact that he is inescapably "made in korea."

basically, i could read this over and over and keep discovering new things to love, because you really paint a picture with every word, description, piece of dialogue. so much of the beauty of this is in your phrasing, which is why i love the way you ended it. not just with jungmin's nonchalant "boyfriend" and hyungjoon's attempt at casual acceptance... but that last line. the music ran from heavy on the bass to heavy on the swing. negl, my mind was screaming at how sexy this sounds. idek. it is just... the perfect tone for the atmosphere.

author santa, if you put up with all of my rambling, i commend you... because i'm not even sure what i'm saying anymore. i just know that i love this, and i'm so grateful to you for writing this for me. there is not nearly enough ss501 fic out there, let alone hyungjoon/jungmin fic, and for you to write me something that i can keep coming back to? I'M JUST SO GLAD YOU WERE ASSIGNED TO BE MY SECRET SANTA. <3
