what ever your faith/thoughts on higher beings... you're thoughts and prayers are appreciated...

i just read this email that i got from my mom about my grandmother (the only grandparent i have left).....

Hello my friends,
I am writing to ask for prayer for my Mom, she is going into surgery on Monday Oct 31@ 7:30 am. She is to have a bronchoscopy first, in order to be sure her lungs are clear by her cardio-thoracic surgeon he will then proceed with her thorocotomy-removal of a part of her left lung.
A bit of history: is that my Mother smoked from the time she was 20 years old until she couldn't breathe in her 70's and landed in the hospital for a run of steroids, breathing treatments etc. She'd been diagnosed with COPD earlier with a combination of chronic bronchitis and emphysema but was relatively symptom free until her episode. After this time she was told she had to quit smoking and she did. That was approx 4 years ago. She has followed the physicians prescriptions well initially and when she was feeling better adjusted her regime of meds.
Mom lives in Florida near Maria and Danny. She continues to do Richard Simon's aerobic exercise @ least once a day and can be seen walking up and down her driveway 100 times sometime each day or night. This to her advantage she is and always' has been a mover exercises regularly, eats well and takes care of herself and does her own housework cleaning and fixing when possible and up until September watched Joey my brother Danny's 3 year old (he's a big boy now and is in preschool) .
Recently she as had increasing shortness of breath with her regular exercise work regimen. When she went to her physician the usual treatment wasn't working satisfactory he ordered a chest xray where they discovered a spot on the Left lung (she' had one on the right since childhood). A Cat Scan of the chest was ordered revealing a hylar mass but it was poor quality and needed to be repeated later in order to see if the mass was is such a place that it could be removed surgically. She had a pulmonary function test for her breathing, blood test and a PET scan which was to check for "hot spots" or other area's that may be cancerous, this was negative "Thank God!"
Following the repeat Cat Scan on Thursday, Mom and Maria met with the physician regarding whether or not the mass could be removed surgically and it looked like it could. Maria had done quite a bit of leg work and had already had an appointment for the following Monday with the Cardio-thoracic surgeon that the hospital staff takes their families to. (Her niece works in OR -exhusbands, sisters- daughter). After meeting with the regular physician she was able to move Mom's appointment up from Monday to yesterday-Friday. When they met with the surgeon the first paragraph of this email happened. Mom and Maria really like this surgeon and are very comfortable his credentials and bedside manner. He will remove the lung and the draining lymph nodes, if there is no involvement with the lymph nodes then chemo and radiation won't be necessary, this will be seen afterwards by biopsy of the tissues removed. If when the surgeon goes in he finds different than anticipated with a large involvement he will leave everything in place and chemo/radiation would be the recommended course. However, Mom doesn't want them. We are praying and believing for the best case scenario.
The surgical recovery is said to be slow and painful, Mom will be in the hospital for minimum of 5 days, on with an epidural pump about 3 day's then move to pain pills. She has the choice of going into a rehab or to Maria's home afterward initially as the Doc say's she must not be alone due to the strong pain meds and her need for R & R. To all who know and love Mom they know she is obstinate to a fault and not only a fighter but a survivor.
So I return to the reason for this email, Please pray.
thanks
Alicia
