Here is chapter three of Secrets.Sorry for the wait, I took a unexpected vacation.
Byakuya was furious when he woke up, that much I remember. The rest is a blur. What I do remember was him pulling on his shirt and a terrible pain in a very private area. He must have hit me after that because the rest is a blank and I awoke three hours later in my bed. I didn’t see him at all the rest of the day, he didn’t even come to dinner though my only response to that was ‘what a strange demon child.’ Needless to say I hated him from the start.
The only good thing about Byakuya coming was that he brought his sister, Rukia. She hit it off with me and the rest of the gang almost immediately by showing how much of a guy she was when authority wasn’t around. That night after dinner I asked her about her and her brother. With a sigh she sat down to tell me her story.
“My brother and I used to be rich. He was heir to Kuchiki corporations and a child protégé. I was just a baby at the time but when my brother turned nine my father mixed with some bad people. Surely you’ve heard of Aizen right?” At this I responded that I only knew the name but nothing about the man himself. “He is a monster. He deals drugs, arms, anything illegal. He had my father murdered and my brother put to work ‘entertaining’ his clients. As for me Byakuya protected me. Did anything Aizen asked as long as I was unharmed.” She sighed and looked at me sadly. “He’s the reason my brother was arrested.”
I instantly felt bad for the older boy and his sister. Understanding the situation and what had happened to Byakuya I went to hunt down the devil himself. I found him in our room. On my bed. All feelings of sympathy gone I stormed over to find out why he was sitting on my bed. “What are you doing? Didn’t you see the sign that says Renji’s bed?” I indicated said sign above the bed. My own personal touch to my little space. Byakuya just looked at me. Apparently he still thought he was too good to speak to other people. Huffing I thought about what Ukitake told me about being nice and grabbed my stuff from around the bed. So what if it was the bed by the window. Who cares if I had slept in it since I came here fifteen years ago? I carried my things solemnly over to the remaining bed Ukitake had made up for Byakuya and pulled out a book to read. An hour later Ukitake brought up Rikichi and the three of us settled down for lights out.
The next morning I woke up to my normal alarm, Rikichi jumping on me. I yawned, stretched and after making my little charge leave me alone got ready for my first day living with the devil. Looking over I saw his bed was empty. Shrugging I went downstairs to the breakfast table, my first stop every morning. That’s where I found Byakuya.
The younger kids who hadn’t gotten a chance to meet him yesterday since he had been in trouble with Ukitake were clinging to his leg desperate to find out who he was. Irritated he tried his hardest to dislodge the young ones. Momo, the gentle eleven year old, Yachiru, the youngest at four, and Yuzu and Karin, the nine year old twins. Rikichi, who had already met Byakuya, and Hitsugaya, a grumpy thirteen year old, were in the corner looking on. Laughing I opened the fridge noticing Byakuya still wouldn’t speak.
The rest of the day was just like any other. Go to school, do homework, play with the young kids, go to sleep. Having Byakuya around was like having a shadow that never went away and slowly I fell into a routine completely forgetting about Byakuya’s past.
