Happy New Year!
Goodbye 2008 … I realize I did not set any New Year resolutions last year. Anyway I will most probably not accomplish any even if I’ve set some for myself. However, I did manage to plan for a holiday that I had procrastinated for some time to Tokyo in March. Enjoying the hot spring bath at Mt.Fuji Mountain was fantastic. After the holiday was all about work, I was tasked to go for a business trip to Australia in April. After that comes the most challenging part for last year, my 7 months posting to Taiwan. I came back for good in December and Singapore was already in RECESSION mode. I see these vocabularies - retrenchment, pay cut, freeze headcount, freeze bonus, and etc on papers daily. Even when it’s the period whereby you can expect some bonus to payoff your hard work for the year, everyone are just hoping to keep their job. That’s how intense the current situation is. As usual the civil servants are spared from this recession. I am glad that most of my friends landed in this category.

Hello 2009 … My first post for 2009. I went for the New Year Count Down at Esplande with my Best-est friends. New Year count down comes around once a year and every year I will just sit by the TV and watch the celebration and fireworks. Being the skeptical Singaporeans I never thought that I will physically head down to watch the fireworks. The rowdy crowds, the traffic and the heat just did not seem worth it. So I finally give it a chance yesterday when DJ suggested that we should do it this year. Definitely not experience at handling the crowd but my perception changed forever. It wasn’t really that bad and in fact it turns out fun and meaningful. Probably next year we can book a room at Mandarin Oriental (did I get it right?) to view and enjoy this spectacular moment. A better 2009! Yeah!
