Went and saw Control on friday night at the film festival
Wonderful film as i expected it didn't let me down
the people sitting next to me were weird as it was getting to the end scene i heard the man whisper to the woman shall we leave before the end and they did
i mean we all knew what the ending was going to be i don't understand how you could walk out without seeing the whole film
i'm the type who sits for the whole credits to absorb the total experience before walking out into the light and the real world
and i'm definately not one to walk on out a good suicide ending :-P
there were a few laughs early in the film
ian posing infront of the mirror singing along to Bowie records all glam rockified (took me back to my teen bedroom and my record player and bowie lps)
there were a few great one liners
fantastic soundtrack apparently the actors played all the warsaw/joy division stuff themselves and the actor playing ian wasn't miming
atmosphere was the final track ...my favourite joy division song perfect song to end the film on
i've been googling trying to find real life pictures of annik honore (ians mistress) to see what she looked like, the actress playing her was beautiful(alexandra maria lara), but i can't find any online pics of the real annik
EDIT- found this pic on a new order forum this seems to be the real annik honore (i had to bable fish translate the page)
i want to find a copy of "touching from a distance" the book written by debbie curtis which the film is based on
samantha morton played debbie in the film she always kinda annoys me as an actress but the rest of the film was so great i can overlook her simperingness
the black and white worked well i can't imagine the film in colour at all
maccensfield (sp?)doesn't look like a very colourful place ..bleak indeed
all in all a very bleak film (not a film to see if you want to be uplifted thats for sure)
it left me pretty melancholy all yesterday
it is a must to own on dvd when it comes out
it is definately added to my favourite movie list
