Growing up, gift giving was a utilitarian activity. Birthdays and other holidays weren't so much celebrated as they were begrudgingly acknowledged, and the finest gift she can recall receiving her in youth was permission to skip Christmas dinner in favor of studying immigration law.
So she frets over this particular gift--the first she has ever given because she wants to, not because she has to--and can't help the thoughtful crease marring her brow.
If Adrian Andrews does not like her present, Franziska will be quite mortified.
A smile lights Adrian's eyes as she pulls the long, silk gloves from their box, sliding the smooth, luxurious fabric over her skin. She looks up at Franziska, coy, and says, "They're perfect."
Franziska smiles, admiring the dark black gloves against Adrian's porcelain skin. Yes, she thinks. Perfect.
