More BORG2

I got a phone call from Lady Bee yesterday evening. She told me that Burning Man had received and reviewed my summery of the BORG2 experiment and appreciated it.
Apparently Larry and the rest of the LLC has read it and found it interesting.
They feel that the BORG2 did not ‘win’ the bet as we did not raise the money we originally said we would and that the art that we brought to the event was not as fabulous as initially claimed. They also felt that our influence did not increase the amount of art at the event nor did it set the bar higher. Larry Personally was not impressed by what he saw and feels that the experiment was difficult to judge in its success, as we will have to wait until next year and see if the art is better or worse with out us.
They did feel that we did a good job, and provided them with some useful information, and did not cause them any difficulties. They have no bad feelings and appreciated our efforts. At this time, the LLC, and Artery have to much to do already and the time, money and staff are not available to incorporate some other system for art approval, or granting process. They did make some changes in the system; Increased Artery staff, raised the budget for grants, removed the ‘Theme’ conditions from granting, and some other small changes to the granting process. (They claim that this was all in the works, before the BORG2 came along and stirred things up.)
So do not look for a Burning Man community vote on anything soon, this idea is not yet embraced by the staff at BM, and despite our best efforts is not supported by our community. Perhaps the world is not ready for democracy, it seems that our community, even in its very forward thinking, cannot handle it.
At least the leadership of BM agrees that it was a win-win situation, and has nothing against us doing something like this again in the future.
Remember, we made more art happen at BM, and in doing that we made more art happen outside of the event, we brought some public awareness to the possibility of the community voting on art and showed that it could be done, by volunteers and in a short amount of time, with no money.
We (the BORG2) Rock! Thanks everyone for all your help in this experiment, it could not have been done with out you!
