I know I know...I've neglected you, but ever since the Russians took over I've put you on the back burner.

Good weekend in my book, Friday night the wife and I had a lovely evening in. Why is it when a program starts getting good it goes on hiatus. Hello Caprica and Stargate Universe. Well at least SGU starts up again soon.

Saturday started off great, then tested my blood pressure then was quite enjoyable again. One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday morning is going to Eastern Market, I've been doing this since I moved to Detroit in the early 90's and didn't realize how much I missed it. It's fun for the deals you get, the access to stuff you just can't find and the people watching. I got a pound of Canadian white cheddar (3yr) which is amazing, some dried mushrooms that I'm going to make a risotto with, a couple of bottles of wine from my favorite wine store and some vanilla beans and fresh heavy cream for the dinner party that we had later on that evening.

So the plan was right after Eastern Market I would stop at a Target and get a torch for the dessert (creme brule) I was making for a dinner party at Brian and Deb's house. Here's where my BP went up. Nope as advertised no torch, went to Macy's, no sir we haven't stocked those in over a year, Sear's nope...all of you are fired. So I called Lisa and she found out that William's Sonoma had two of them. Fine we'll stop on the way up to Brian and Deb's and get one.

Found out it wasn't that easy, they had two models. A professional one and a slightly less professional one. I bought the professional one (hey I was a sous-chef once) and grabbed a bottle of gas to go with it. Doh, got back to the car to try it out and it was the wrong gas, so back to the store to get the slightly less professional one.

Once we got to Brian and Deb's, all the stress melted off. Not only does the Hermitage do this well for me but also the guests of honor for the evening. Batty and Dennis came up from Ohio to get her new car. The dinner, conversation and beer (and a dram of single malt) were all wonderful. I think the creme brule was a hit, it was worth the blood pressure spike, but it also reminded me that if you want to do something new plan well in advance for it.

It was great seeing Batty again, Lisa and I haven't seen her since her wedding day and it was great finally meeting Dennis. He's really great and I think a good match for her.

Now back to the grind.
