For the doctors and writers on my list:
I have once again begun writing. Right now I'm working on something that's been in my head for years and actually has the potential to go somewhere but I'm stuck because of my lack of specific medical knowledge. I need detailed information on what happens when someone gets shot, and I have no idea where to get it.
I have a 150-lb mid 20s female in moderately good shape who is going to be shot. I need her injuries to be such that she would bleed to death within 20 minutes but is able to stay conscious for at least 10 minutes (if this is even possible). What would be appropriate number and placement of the wounds?
I also need to know how she would be feeling during those ten minutes. Would she be in extreme amounts of pain, or would shock set in and protect her from some of it? Would she be able to feel where the injuries were located or would it be more of a sensory overload thing? What type of symptoms would she experience as her body shuts down? Numbness or weakness in specific areas? Shaking? Blurred vision? Heaviness in the limbs? Drowsiness? How coherent would her thought-processes be? I'm assuming a certain level of confusion and delirium, but to what extent, and how quickly? Would she be able to speak?
Etc. etc.
Anyone have answers to these questions or ideas on where to go to find them?
