I want the Kindle. Not that I don't appreciate paper books quite a bit, but I would love to be able to take something like this along on a trip rather than hauling around books to read. Not to mention the storage aspect -- being able to keep books I'd like to be able to read again or refer back to without having to have the physical thing on my ( Read more... )

I wonder about the battery life on that thing, though. I watched the demo video, and they say that you can go days without recharging it. Well, sure, but the same is true for any cell phone or laptop computer when you first get it. After a while, though, that charge lasts a lot less, and you become wired to the closest power outlet.

I'm just suspicious of new technology, anyway, but I do see this as having good potential. If enough people get into it, they'll improve on it in time. Maybe they'll even get out of the monochrome display era (which isn't a big deal for regular books, but using it for reading blogs and PDFs lessens the experience and distorts the author's intended presentation).

True. I would use it primarily for books. As for the battery, one would assume you'd be able to buy a replacement battery without replacing the whole unit.

I guess it depends on how they'll market it. Amazon is usually pretty good about those kinds of things, I think. And battery wear and tear is simply something one has to deal with in this day of wireless products.
