Chii was sitting by the window supposedly reading a manga. His brows were furrowed and he sports a glare that seems to show that the manga have greatly offended him.
Ryosuke and Yuto shared a glance, communicating.
Yuto gestured to Chii. ‘You noticed?’
Ryosuke nodded. ‘Yeah.’
He raised his brows. ‘What’s his problem?’
Yuto shrugged. ‘I don’t know.’ He gazed at Chii who haven’t flipped a page for the last fifteen minutes.
Yuto glanced back at Ryosuke, brows crunched looking worried.
Ryosuke gestured at Chinen. ‘So, do we talk to him?’
Yuto sighed. ‘We have to, don’t we?’
The two boys got up from their seats and approached the younger boy.
“Chii...” Yuto started.
Chinen looked up with a glare. “What is it?” he asked, looking at the two.
“Uhmmm... Are you okay?” Yuto asked and then he nudged Ryosuke. ‘Say something!’
“You were kinda giving off a scary aura...” Ryosuke added.
“I’m fine.” Chinen said immediately.
“Ah, you’re okay. Let’s go then, Yuto.” Ryosuke said.
“Yama-chan!” Yuto chided. “Chii, we know you’re not okay... What is it? You know you can tell us anything.” Yuto said.
Chinen sighed. They knew him so well. He knew Yuto wouldn't leave him alone until he starts saying something.
“It’s really nothing.” Chii started. “I’m just a bit confused...”
“About what?” Yuto asked, concern lacing his voice.
But Ryosuke, catching up, grinned mischievously and said, “About who?”
Yuto looked at Ryosuke, surprised and then at Chii.
Chii sighed again. They knew him too well.
He looked down, seeming like a kid caught red handed.
“Umika-chan... Kanon-chan...” he said softly, not looking at the older boys.
Ryosuke let out a chuckle and was about to say something but Yuto stopped him.
Yuto looked at Chii, smiling a little. “What about them?” he asked.
“Well...” Chii said even more softly. “Kanon-chan confessed...” he said turning red.
“Eh? Really? Wow! Way to go Chii!” Yama-chan said in a booming voice that Chii looked up and glanced around to see if there was anyone else in the room. There wasn’t. He sighed in relief.
“Yama-chan, please stop talking for a while...” Yuto said, losing his patience.
He turned back to Chinen.
“So what’s the problem?” Yuto asked.
Chinen turned redder. “I... I haven’t given her my reply...”
“Do you like her?” Yuto asked.
“I think so...” Chinen said. “But I like Umika-chan, too.” He was saying it so softly he was almost whispering.
“Well, who do you like better?” Yuto asked.
“I... I don’t know. I like both of them but it’s different... I wanted to confess to Umika-chan before but I was afraid she would reject me and then Kanon-chan suddenly... ” Chinen trailed off.
“Okay...” Yuto said, taking it all in. “So you really like Umika-chan but you don’t want to be rejected, and then Kanon-chan confessed that she likes you but you’re not sure if you like her in the same way...”
Chinen nodded glumly.
“Well, let’s just think about it for a while.” Ryosuke said. “Think of the things you like and don't like about Umika and Kanon. Pros and cons. And then make your decision.”
Yuto looked at him wide-eyed. “Yama-chan, that’s unexpectedly a great idea...”
He looked at Chinen again. “Let’s do that, Umika first. What do you like about her?” Yuto said.
“Well, she’s beautiful... and she’s fun to hang out with, fun to talk to... She’s nice and cute and bubbly... She always enjoys what she does and gives her all... She’s very talented... She’s a great friend and she knows me so well; she understands my gestures and stuffs... She’s a great confidant, Mirai-chan said so, as well. And my heart goes doki doki whenever she smile or whenever she yawn or call my name or-“
“Okay, how about the cons?” Ryosuke intervened before Chinen could go fanboy-mode.
“Well, she can be annoying sometimes, especially her fans... and she can be lazy about school but I guess that’s because she’s always overworking herself for 9nine... She never stops talking about her dog and how cute it is but the dog is cute, I can’t deny that... and well, I hate it when she’s around and I became so conscious about everything.” Chinen finished.
“Okay... fair enough. What about Kanon?” Yuto asked.
“She’s cute, very cute. She’s like a doll. She’s very nice, too. She speaks her mind and she knows how to have fun. She’s witty, and she’s talented, too. She’s a great friend, she always puts others first. She’s optimistic. She hates losing, just like me. She’s mischievous but I like that. And just like Yama-chan and Ohno-kun there’s a gap between normal Kanon and idol Kanon. When you see her as an idol you’d think that you want to take care of her and protect her but when you get to know her you’ll discover that she can take care of herself alright.” Chinen said.
“Okay, what don’t you like about her?” Ryosuke asked.
Chinen thought hard. He hasn’t really thought of that. He couldn’t really think of something Kanon did that annoyed or upset him...
But something was there... What is it that he didn’t like about Kanon?
And then it hit him. He realized now.
“Just one thing.” He said.
The two looked at him, waiting.
And Chinen smiled. “She’s not Umika.”
Yuto and Ryosuke smiled, too.
“Ah, that is a big problem.” Ryosuke said good-naturedly.
Yuto let out a chuckle, “Well, you’ve made you’ve decision, then.”
“Yeah.” Chinen said. “Thanks guys.”
Chinen stood up and left the room intending to go to Kanon’s to clear things. And then, well, he’d have to clear things with Umika, too, wouldn’t he?
